What are file hashes?
A file hash (or checksum) is a unique fingerprint generated from a file's contents. Even a tiny change to the file produces a completely different hash, making it perfect for verifying file integrity and detecting tampering.
MD5 (128-bit)
Fast but cryptographically broken. Use for quick checksums only.
SHA-1 (160-bit)
Deprecated for security. Still common in legacy systems.
SHA-256 (256-bit)
Industry standard. Secure for most applications.
SHA-512 (512-bit)
Maximum security. Ideal for sensitive data.
