Does 21 CFR Part 11 apply to a CRO's IT?▼
When you create, modify, maintain or transmit electronic records that FDA regulations require, Part 11 expectations follow those records, whether the system is yours or a sponsor's. For CROs, that usually means your CTMS, eTMF, safety and statistical environments. The application vendor and your quality team handle validation, while IT provides supporting controls like unique accounts, audit log retention, time synchronization, change control and backups. We document those controls so your validation packages can reference them.
How do you keep unblinded data away from the blinded study team?▼
With technical separation, not just instructions. We create distinct security groups for unblinded roles, put their files in storage locations the blinded team can't access, separate email distribution lists and turn on audit logging for those locations. Membership gets reviewed on a schedule and whenever someone changes roles. If your sponsors or SOPs require additional measures, like separate tenants or workstations, we can build those too. Your quality team decides the policy, and we enforce it.
Our freelance CRAs use their own laptops. Is that acceptable to sponsors?▼
More sponsors are asking pointed questions about it. Monitoring reports, site documents and sponsor system sessions on personal devices are hard to protect and harder to prove you protected. The cleanest answer is issuing managed, encrypted laptops to contractors for the length of their engagement. Where that isn't practical, we can provide a secure virtual desktop so data stays inside your environment. Either way, you'll have a clear answer the next time a sponsor asks.
What do sponsors typically ask in a vendor security questionnaire?▼
Most cover identity and MFA, access reviews, encryption of data at rest and in transit, endpoint protection, backups and restore testing, incident response, vendor management, staff training and sometimes frameworks like ISO 27001 or SOC 2. Many also ask about data separation between sponsors and about Part 11 supporting controls. We help you answer accurately, attach evidence and avoid overstating what's in place. Where you're SOC 2 aligned but not audited, we help you say so clearly.
Do you handle data for trials with European participants?▼
If your studies include EU or UK participants, GDPR obligations likely apply to how pseudonymized trial data is processed and transferred. On the IT side, that affects where data is stored, which cloud regions you use, access controls and how quickly you can respond to incidents. We configure systems to support those requirements and keep records of where data lives. Data transfer mechanisms and your role as processor or controller are questions for your privacy lead and counsel.
Can you support a small specialty CRO or consultancy?▼
Yes. Smaller CROs and functional service providers face the same sponsor questionnaires as large ones, often with no dedicated security staff. We bring the same controls at a scale that fits: managed devices, MFA, separated data, backups and an evidence package. Our engineers work remotely across the U.S. and bring 20+ years of IT and cybersecurity experience to the work, so you get the controls sponsors expect without building an internal security team first.

What does Contract Research Organizations (CROs) IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
