Overnight studies, home tests and remote scoring on IT that works the night shift

Sleep Medicine Centers IT Services

A sleep center does its most important work while everyone else is asleep: technologists record overnight studies, video and raw signals pile up by the gigabyte, and in the morning scorers and physicians need every file intact.

At a glance

Lose a night's recording to a failed drive or a network drop and the patient has to come back.

We support PSG acquisition and review workstations on the IT side, size storage and backups for heavy study files, secure remote access for scorers and interpreting physicians, and protect the home sleep test devices and CPAP data platforms that keep your follow-up running.

Sleep labs and sleep medicine practices in Texas and nationwide get U.S.-based engineers and automated monitoring that watches the systems overnight.

IT that keeps every night recorded, scorers connected, home tests flowing.

Managed IT for sleep labs where one lost recording means one more night in the lab for a tired patient.

Night lab, day clinic

Your busiest shift starts after the lights go out

Sleep medicine splits into two worlds: the overnight lab with its acquisition stations, cameras and technologists, and the daytime clinic with scoring, interpretation, home testing and PAP follow-up. Both depend on large files moving cleanly between people who are rarely in the same room. Here's what that cycle leans on, where it fails, and how we shore it up.

01 · The pressure

A night of signals has to reach a scorer by morning

Each bedroom has amplifiers, sensors and an infrared camera feeding an acquisition PC. Technologists monitor several beds from a central station and start CPAP titrations mid-study. By morning, those recordings need to reach a remote scorer, then the interpreting physician. Meanwhile home sleep test devices come back by mail, get downloaded and scored, and PAP compliance data feeds follow-up visits. One corrupted study means a repeat night, a delayed diagnosis and a frustrated referring doctor.

  • Bedroom acquisition PCs and video
  • Studies passed to remote scorers by morning
  • Home test downloads and PAP compliance data

02 · How it breaks

Full disks, open remote desktops and loose devices

Study files fill a local drive, and the overnight recording stops at 3 a.m. with nobody awake to call. Remote scorers connect over an exposed remote desktop port with a shared password. Home sleep test devices get downloaded on a front desk PC that also checks personal email. Cameras sit on the same network as the EHR with factory passwords. A phishing email looking like a DME supplier's referral steals the intake coordinator's login.

  • Storage filling up mid-recording
  • Exposed remote desktop for scoring staff
  • Bedroom cameras with default credentials

03 · What we change

Watched storage, gated access, a separate camera network

We size and monitor storage on acquisition and review systems, with 24/7 automated monitoring that alerts before a disk fills. Remote scorers and physicians reach the review server through MFA-protected VPN or the vendor's secure portal, never an open port. Cameras and acquisition stations move to their own segment with changed credentials. Home test downloads happen on a dedicated, managed workstation, and study archives go to immutable off-site backups.

  • Storage alerts before recordings stop
  • MFA-gated access for scorers and readers
  • Segmented cameras and acquisition stations

04 · The after

Nights end clean and reports go out on time

Technologists finish the shift knowing every study saved. Scorers pick up files from home without anyone emailing passwords. Physicians interpret on schedule, and referring doctors get reports without chasing. Home test devices move through a controlled process. When an accreditation surveyor, payer or insurer asks how studies are protected and who can access them, you show them logs, segmentation and a restore test instead of an explanation.

  • No more lost recordings to full disks
  • Remote scoring without shared passwords
  • Evidence ready for surveyors and payers

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

PSG Acquisition & Review Support

We support the computers, storage and network behind Natus SleepWorks, Compumedics Profusion, Philips Sleepware G3 and Nox systems. That covers acquisition PCs in each bedroom, the central monitoring station and the review server. Amplifiers, sensors and the vendor's application stay with the manufacturer, and we coordinate with them when the cause is unclear.

Study Storage & Archive Planning

Polysomnograms with synchronized video create large files every night. We size primary storage for your bed count, set retention and archive tiers, and monitor free space so recordings never stop because a disk filled. Archived studies go into immutable off-site backups, and we test restoring an older study so you know it actually works.

Remote Scoring & Reading Access

Many scorers and interpreting physicians work from home or another facility. We set up MFA-protected VPN, published applications or the vendor's secure remote option, so they can open studies without exposed remote desktop ports. Access is per person, logged and removed promptly when a contract ends.

Home Sleep Test Device Handling

Home sleep test devices travel to patients and back, carrying recorded data. We set up a dedicated, managed download workstation, confirm devices are cleared before reissue according to the manufacturer's process, and protect cloud portals like WatchPAT or Nox with MFA and named accounts. Device hardware and cleaning stay with the manufacturer's instructions.

Bedroom Camera & Network Segmentation

Infrared cameras, intercoms and acquisition stations belong on their own network, away from the EHR and front desk. We segment them, change default credentials, restrict internet access and keep video storage inside your backup plan. Patients sleeping on camera deserve that much care, and so does your liability.

PAP Data & DME Coordination

Follow-up visits depend on CPAP compliance data from platforms like ResMed AirView and Philips Care Orchestrator, and on referrals moving to DME suppliers. We secure those portal accounts with MFA, replace shared logins and set up encrypted channels for referral paperwork, so compliance reports and orders don't wander through personal email.

Why Choose LayerLogix?

Fewer Repeat Studies

Monitored storage and stable acquisition systems mean recordings complete as planned. Patients don't have to spend another night in the lab because a file was lost, and your bed schedule stays available for new patients instead of redos.

Faster Report Turnaround

When scorers and physicians can reach studies securely from wherever they work, interpretation happens on schedule. Referring physicians get results sooner, which keeps referrals coming and patients moving toward treatment. Physicians reading for several facilities also stop juggling separate logins and slow connections.

Overnight Problems Caught Early

Automated monitoring watches disks, services and network links through the night and alerts before small issues stop a recording. Technologists can focus on patients and titrations instead of troubleshooting computers at 2 a.m. Morning staff get a short summary of anything that happened during the night.

Confident Answers for Reviews

Accreditation surveys, payer audits and cyber insurance renewals ask how study data is stored and who can see it. Documented storage plans, access logs and restore tests give you specific answers for each of them.

Our Process

1
We inventory bedroom acquisition PCs, the monitoring station, review servers, cameras, home test devices and every portal and remote user.
2
We measure current study file sizes, storage headroom and retention needs, and map how studies move from lab to scorer to physician.
3
We fix urgent gaps: exposed remote desktop ports, shared scorer logins, default camera passwords and unmonitored storage.
4
We segment cameras and acquisition stations, set up MFA-gated remote access and deploy endpoint protection within vendor limits.
5
We set up storage monitoring and immutable archive backups, then run a restore test on an older study with your team.
6
We review bed expansion, new scorers, home testing volume and payer or accreditation questions with you each quarter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our recordings sometimes stop overnight. What causes that?▼
The usual suspects are full disks, Windows updates restarting the acquisition PC, network drops between bedroom PCs and the central station, and power events. We look at logs from failed nights to find the pattern, then fix the cause: storage monitoring with alerts before disks fill, update schedules that never touch acquisition PCs during study hours, network checks and UPS units where they're missing. Automated monitoring keeps watching overnight so problems surface before a recording is lost.
How should remote scorers connect to our studies?▼
Through an MFA-protected path that doesn't expose remote desktop to the internet. Depending on your sleep software, that might be a VPN with per-user accounts, published applications or the vendor's own secure remote client. Each scorer gets an individual login, sessions are logged and access ends when the contract does. Studies stay on your server rather than being downloaded to personal computers, which keeps patient recordings and video under your control.
Is it safe to keep bedroom cameras on our network?▼
It's safe when they're isolated. Cameras recording patients while they sleep are sensitive, and many ship with default passwords and outdated firmware. We move cameras and intercoms to their own network segment, change credentials, block internet access they don't need and limit viewing to the monitoring station and approved users. Firmware updates follow the camera or PSG vendor's guidance. Video retention should match your policy, and we make sure stored video is included in backups where required.
Do home sleep test devices carry patient data?▼
They record data during the night, and some store patient identifiers until the device is downloaded and cleared. We set up a dedicated download workstation, make sure devices are cleared according to the manufacturer's process before they go to the next patient, and protect any cloud scoring portal with MFA and named accounts. Device cleaning, disinfection and hardware issues follow the manufacturer's instructions, and we keep the IT side consistent.
Do you support Natus, Compumedics and Philips sleep systems?▼
Yes, on the infrastructure side. We support the acquisition and review computers, storage, network, remote access and security those systems rely on. The manufacturer supports its software, amplifiers and sensors. When something breaks, we figure out whether the cause is the computer, the network, storage or the application, fix what's ours and open a clear ticket with the vendor for the rest, so technologists aren't stuck in the middle. We also keep a record of which software versions run on each acquisition PC.
We're a sleep medicine practice with a lab inside a hospital. Can you help?▼
Often, yes, with clear lines. The hospital may own the network and some systems, while your practice owns the clinic, scoring workflow and physician access. We document who manages what, coordinate with hospital IT on segmentation and remote access, and handle the practice-side systems ourselves. Remote engineering happens during business hours from across the U.S., with after-hours emergency response for active incidents, and hands-on work is done locally or by a vetted technician we direct.
Do you provide Sleep Medicine Centers IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers sleep medicine centers IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. For most Houston-area clients we can be on-site the same day when something needs hands-on attention, and our help desk is available during business hours, with after-hours emergency support. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Sleep Medicine Centers IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
