Do we really need individual logins in the pharmacy software? It slows us down.▼
It doesn't have to. Many pharmacy systems support badge, fingerprint or quick PIN switching between users at a shared station, so a tech can step up and sign in faster than typing a shared password. Individual logins matter because they show who entered, filled and verified each prescription, which PBM auditors, your board of pharmacy and your own error investigations depend on. They also mean a departing employee's access ends the day they leave instead of lingering inside a shared account.
What do we need to do for DSCSA on the IT side?▼
The Drug Supply Chain Security Act requires dispensers to receive and keep transaction data for the prescription products they buy, verify suspect products and provide records when asked, with the law moving toward fully electronic, interoperable tracing. Your pharmacist-in-charge and wholesaler define the process, and FDA has phased timing for smaller dispensers. On the IT side, we make sure whatever portal or system stores that data has named accounts with MFA, is backed up and can be searched quickly if a trading partner or regulator asks.
Our internet went down and we couldn't run claims for hours. How do we stop that?▼
Add a second internet connection from a different provider, often a business cellular service, and a firewall that fails over automatically. Claims, e-prescriptions and card payments keep moving when the main line drops, usually without staff noticing. We monitor both lines so we know when the primary fails, and we chase the provider for you. For extra insurance, we'll check which functions your pharmacy software can run offline and document a short downtime procedure.
Do you support counting machines and packaging automation?▼
We support the network, workstations and integrations those machines rely on, and we keep them on a segment where they can talk to your dispensing software without being exposed to the rest of the network. Changes inside the automation equipment, such as firmware or calibration, stay with the manufacturer's service team. We coordinate with them for updates and make sure their remote support connection is documented and controlled rather than left open on the network permanently.
Are compounding and retail pharmacy IT the same thing?▼
There's overlap, but the priorities differ. A community pharmacy's IT is centered on dispensing speed, claims, POS, phones and DSCSA records. A compounding pharmacy adds formulation and batch records, environmental monitoring in cleanrooms and documentation tied to USP chapters, and in some cases FDA oversight. If you run a small compounding area inside a retail pharmacy, we treat those systems as their own zone with stricter record controls, while keeping the retail counter fast.
We have two locations. Can you support both remotely?▼
Yes. Most of our support is remote, with U.S.-based engineers who can see every workstation, register and network device at both stores. For hands-on work, such as replacing a failed register or wiring a new station, we handle it locally near our offices or send a vetted local technician who works under our engineer's direction. We support independent pharmacies in Texas and nationwide, and we can standardize both locations so staff can move between stores without relearning anything.
Do you provide Independent Pharmacies IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers independent pharmacies IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. For most Houston-area clients we can be on-site the same day when something needs hands-on attention, and our help desk is available during business hours, with after-hours emergency support. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Independent Pharmacies IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
