Unreleased builds, source depots and storefront keys: guard the game before launch day.

Video Game Studios IT Services

A game studio's biggest risks are the ones players eventually see: a leaked build that spoils the reveal, a source code dump posted online, or a hijacked storefront account pushing a malicious update to everyone who owns your game.

At a glance

Those usually start with a phished developer, a contractor with too much Perforce access or a shared publishing login.

We run IT and security for independent and mid-size game studios: Perforce and repository access, build infrastructure, Mac and Windows workstations, dev kit handling, storefront and community accounts, and the controls publishers and platform holders ask about. We work with studios in Texas and nationwide, mostly remotely.

Security that keeps builds unleaked, the depot locked, every patch genuine.

IT and security for studios whose source, builds and storefront accounts are worth a lot to people who didn't make the game.

Game studio IT

Your reveal shouldn't happen on a leak forum

Game development pulls together artists, programmers, designers, QA testers and contractors across time zones, all pushing huge files through Perforce and build farms. Publishers and platform holders set security expectations, and players notice instantly when something goes wrong. Here's what a studio depends on, how leaks and account takeovers actually happen, and what we put in place.

01 · The pressure

Milestones, certification and launch windows

Artists check assets into Perforce Helix Core, engineers build in Unreal or Unity, the build farm churns nightly, QA tests on PC and console dev kits, and producers prep milestone builds for the publisher. Community managers run Discord and social channels, and someone holds the keys to Steamworks or other storefront partner accounts. If the depot goes down, nobody works. If a build or source leaks, the reveal and the marketing plan go with it.

  • Perforce depots hold years of source and art
  • Milestone builds go to publishers and testers
  • Storefront accounts can push updates to players

02 · How it breaks

Phished devs, open depots and hijacked storefronts

Studios get hit by attackers who social-engineer a developer on Slack or Discord, steal session tokens and then pull source from repositories the whole team can read. Contractors and outsourcers often get full depot access because scoping it felt slow. QA builds get shared through public links. Storefront partner accounts protected only by a password get hijacked to push malware disguised as a patch. Dev kits leave the office without a record.

  • Social engineering through Slack and Discord
  • Contractors with full depot read access
  • Storefront accounts hijacked to push malware

03 · What we change

Scoped depots, protected publishing, managed machines

We put SSO with phishing-resistant MFA in front of Perforce, source control, Jira and storefront accounts where they support it, and scope depot access so outsourcers see only their streams. Workstations, Mac or Windows, get MDM, encryption and EDR tuned for heavy builds. Build distribution moves to authenticated channels with watermarking where possible. Storefront publishing rights go to a small group with strong MFA, and dev kits get tracked check-in and check-out.

  • Depot access scoped by team and contractor
  • Storefront publishing limited to a few accounts
  • Tracked check-in and check-out for dev kits

04 · The after

Launch day goes the way you planned

Your reveal happens on your schedule. A publisher's security questionnaire gets answered with real controls. When an outsourcing partner finishes, their depot access ends cleanly. If a developer's account is compromised, the attacker reaches one stream instead of the whole game. And players get only patches your team actually built and approved, because nobody can push to the storefront with just a stolen password.

  • Reveals on your schedule, not a forum's
  • Publisher questionnaires answered with evidence
  • Only approved patches reach players

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

Perforce and Source Protection

We secure Perforce Helix Core and Git with SSO or MFA where supported, protections tables and permissions scoped by stream and team, and audit logging of large syncs. Backups and checkpoints are tested regularly, because a corrupted depot can stop the whole studio. We work with your build engineer on any change that affects pipelines.

Build Farm and Pipeline Security

Build machines hold signing credentials, platform SDKs and full source. We isolate the build farm network, manage credentials in a vault rather than on build agents, restrict who can trigger release builds and keep build servers patched. Distribution of internal builds moves to authenticated channels instead of shared links.

Storefront and Publishing Account Security

Steamworks, console partner portals, mobile app stores and launcher accounts can push code to every player. We limit publishing rights to a small group, enforce the strongest MFA each platform offers, separate admin and day-to-day accounts and review access whenever team members change roles or leave.

Dev Kit and Hardware Tracking

Console dev kits and test devices come with platform holder requirements and NDAs. We help set up an inventory with check-in and check-out records, secure the network those kits connect to and make sure kits taken home for remote work are tracked and returned. Platform-specific rules stay with your producer and the platform holder.

Studio Workstation Management

Programmers and artists need powerful Mac and Windows machines with admin rights for tools and drivers. We manage them with MDM, encryption, EDR tuned to tolerate compilers and engines, elevation tools instead of permanent admin, and standard images so a dead workstation is replaced quickly.

Community and Social Account Protection

Discord servers, social channels and community forums are part of your brand. We protect admin accounts with MFA, limit who holds owner rights, review bots and integrations with broad permissions and set recovery options the studio controls, so a hijacked moderator doesn't hand your community to a scammer.

Reveals Stay Yours

Scoped depot access, authenticated build distribution and protected accounts make leaks of builds and assets far less likely. Marketing gets to reveal the game the way it planned, and your team gets the moment it worked toward.

Players Trust Every Patch

Strong MFA and limited publishing rights on storefront accounts mean nobody can push a malicious update under your name with a stolen password. That protects your players' machines and the reputation your next game depends on.

Outsourcing Without Overexposure

Art, QA and porting partners get access to exactly the streams and builds they need, with end dates. You can work with more partners without each one becoming a door into your entire codebase. Offboarding is a checklist.

Publisher Reviews Go Faster

Publishers and platform holders increasingly ask about security before signing or certifying. Documented controls and evidence let your producers answer quickly and get back to shipping the game rather than chasing paperwork. Answers get reused across deals.

Our Process

1
We inventory Perforce and Git, build infrastructure, workstations, dev kits, storefront and partner accounts, community platforms and contractor access.
2
We review depot permissions and build distribution, identifying broad access, shared links and accounts that can publish to players.
3
We roll out SSO and phishing-resistant MFA, then scope depot access by team, stream and outsourcing partner.
4
We bring workstations under MDM and EDR tuned for builds, isolate the build farm and vault its signing credentials.
5
We lock down storefront and community accounts, set up dev kit tracking and document controls for publisher questionnaires.
6
We provide ongoing IT support, contractor onboarding and offboarding, depot backup checks and quarterly access reviews.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do we stop builds from leaking?▼
Limit who gets builds, how they get them and what traces they carry. We move internal and milestone builds to authenticated distribution instead of shared links, give testers and partners access only to the builds they need, and add watermarking where your pipeline supports it so a leak can be traced. Depot access gets scoped, and large or unusual syncs get logged. No control is perfect, but these remove the casual paths most leaks take.
Can you secure Perforce without slowing artists down?▼
Yes. Most of the work is in permissions, authentication and monitoring, not in the sync path itself. We scope access in the protections table by stream and team, add SSO or MFA where your Helix Core setup supports it and log large syncs. Artists keep working at the same speed. We also make sure checkpoints and backups run and get tested, since an unrecoverable depot is a bigger threat to your schedule than any login prompt.
How do we protect our Steamworks and storefront accounts?▼
Treat them like the keys to every player's machine. Limit publishing and build-upload rights to a few people, turn on the strongest MFA each platform supports, use separate accounts for administration and daily work, and remove access the day someone leaves. Some storefronts have added extra verification for pushing builds after past account takeovers. We help configure these settings and review them regularly, along with the email accounts that can reset storefront passwords.
Do you handle console dev kit requirements?▼
We handle the IT side: a tracked inventory with check-in and check-out, a dedicated network segment for kits, secure remote access when kits are used from home and logs of where each kit is. The platform holders set their own security and confidentiality requirements, and those agreements belong to your producer and legal team. We help put the technical controls in place that support whatever those agreements require. Lost kits get reported fast.
Does COPPA apply to our game?▼
It can. COPPA applies to online services, including games, that are directed to children under 13 or knowingly collect personal information from them. Factors include subject matter, art style, audience and marketing. If it applies, it affects accounts, chat, analytics and advertising in the game. Whether your title is covered is a legal question for your counsel. We help on the IT side by securing the systems that hold player data and limiting who can access it.
We're a small indie team. What matters most?▼
Start with the controls that prevent catastrophic loss: MFA on email, Perforce or Git and every storefront account; tested backups of your depot; managed, encrypted laptops; and tight control over who can publish builds. Those cover most of the ways small studios lose a game or a launch. We can set them up quickly and support you as you grow, adding scoped contractor access and build farm controls when you bring on outsourcers.
Do you provide Video Game Studios IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers video game studios IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Video Game Studios IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
