Protect sessions, stems and unreleased tracks without slowing the room down

Music & Recording Studios IT Services

A recording studio's product is the session, and losing one to a failed drive or a leaked bounce can cost a client relationship that took years to build.

At a glance

Every day depends on DAW systems that have to stay stable mid-take, plugin and iLok licenses that must activate on the first try, a NAS or SAN full of multitracks, and file transfers to artists, producers, mix engineers and labels who expect unreleased work to stay private.

We run the IT behind that on Mac and Windows alike: studio workstations and their update schedules, session storage and versioned backups, secure delivery links, the studio network and the office side of booking and billing. We keep IT changes out of the way of a live session. We support studios and audio post houses in Texas and nationwide.

IT that keeps sessions safe, masters private, the room recording.

Managed IT and security for the DAW rigs, session storage and file delivery of music, recording and audio post studios.

Music & recording

The session is the product. Treat it that way.

Studios run on creative momentum, and IT is supposed to disappear. But behind every take sit drives, licenses, networks and file shares that can fail at the worst moment, and unreleased songs that someone, somewhere, wants to leak. Here's what that looks like in a working room, and what we put in place.

01 · The pressure

The artist is in the room and the clock is running

Clients book by the day or the hour, so a crashing DAW or a missing plugin is billable time lost and a mood broken. Engineers move sessions between the live room, edit suites and mix rooms over the studio network. Producers and remote collaborators trade stems by download link. Labels and managers want unreleased material delivered securely and never posted early. Session archives become valuable later for remixes, reissues and sync licensing.

  • DAW stability matters most in the middle of a take
  • Sessions move between rooms and remote collaborators
  • Unreleased material has to stay under wraps

02 · How it breaks

Single drives, public links and shared accounts

A client's whole album lives on one external drive that falls off a desk. Engineers share stems through public links that never expire, then a link gets forwarded. The studio's cloud storage account uses one shared password that a former intern still knows. An unplanned OS update breaks plugin compatibility the night before a big session. A phished booking inbox sends clients a fake deposit request.

  • Multitracks on one unbacked-up external drive
  • Open download links for unreleased songs
  • Surprise OS updates breaking plugins and drivers

03 · What we change

Versioned storage, private links, planned updates

We put sessions on a properly sized NAS or shared storage with versioning, then back it up off-site automatically. Client delivery moves to expiring, password-protected or account-based links with download logs. Everyone gets their own account with MFA on cloud storage and email. DAW machines run on a controlled update schedule that we test against your plugins and interfaces first, on Mac and Windows, so nothing changes during a session.

  • Versioned session storage with off-site backup
  • Expiring, logged links for client delivery
  • Tested update windows for DAW workstations

04 · The after

Engineers focus on sound, not drives and licenses

A dropped drive becomes a shrug instead of a disaster. When an artist's manager asks how unreleased tracks are handled, you have a clear answer and logs to back it up. A former intern can't reach anything. Updates happen when the rooms are dark, and plugins open on the first try. Years from now, when a label wants stems for a reissue, the session is still there and still opens.

  • Every session backed up and recoverable
  • A real answer for labels and managers on leaks
  • Archived sessions that open years later

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

DAW Workstation Support

Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton and the rest each have their own OS and hardware quirks. We maintain Mac and Windows studio machines with tested driver and OS versions, keep audio interfaces and control surfaces happy, and plan updates around your booking calendar so no one discovers a broken plugin with a client in the chair.

Session Storage & Backup

Multitrack sessions are large and irreplaceable. We size NAS or shared storage for your rooms, set up versioning so an accidental save-over can be undone, and back everything up off-site on a schedule that fits the size of your archive. Then we test restores, because a backup that won't open is just a hope.

Unreleased Material Protection

Leaks usually come from loose links and shared accounts rather than hackers. We set up private delivery with expiring, password-protected or account-based links and download logs, apply MFA to every storage account, and limit who can access client folders, so you can tell artists and labels exactly how their music is handled.

Plugin & License Management

iLok, plugin bundles and DAW subscriptions tie a studio's capability to accounts that are easy to lose track of. We document which licenses live where, keep account ownership with the studio rather than an individual engineer, and help move licenses quickly when a machine fails or a room is upgraded.

Studio Network & Remote Sessions

Moving sessions between rooms, streaming to remote producers and handling big uploads all depend on the studio network. We build a wired network for audio workstations, keep guest Wi-Fi for artists separate, and tune your internet for remote collaboration tools and large file transfers without exposing the studio's storage.

Booking, Billing & Email Security

Booking requests, deposits and invoices run through email and studio management tools. We protect those inboxes with strong MFA and impersonation alerts, keep payments inside your processor, and help you tell clients how deposit requests really arrive, so nobody pays a scammer posing as your studio manager.

No More Lost Sessions

Versioned storage and off-site backups mean a failed drive, a bad save or ransomware doesn't take a client's project with it. You can restore yesterday's session, or last month's, and keep the work and the relationship intact.

Artists and Labels Trust You

Clear handling of unreleased material, with private links, named accounts and logs, gives managers and labels a reason to book you for sensitive projects, and gives you something concrete to point to if a leak happens elsewhere in the chain.

Sessions Without IT Interruptions

Tested updates, stable drivers and licenses that activate keep the room focused on the music. Billable hours go to recording and mixing, not to reinstalling a plugin or rebooting a frozen interface while the artist waits.

An Archive That Earns Later

Well-organized, backed-up session archives can be reopened for remixes, reissues, sync requests and anniversary editions. That turns old projects into potential future work rather than a drawer of unlabeled drives nobody trusts to spin up.

Our Process

1
Inventory DAW workstations, interfaces, plugins and licenses, storage, external drives, the studio network and every cloud account.
2
Map where sessions and unreleased material live, how they're shared with clients, and who can reach them.
3
Set up versioned session storage with automatic off-site backup and test a full restore of a real project.
4
Move client delivery to private, expiring links and give every engineer and assistant their own account with MFA.
5
Document licenses and account ownership, and set a tested update schedule for Mac and Windows studio machines.
6
Check in each quarter on storage growth, new rooms or gear, upcoming OS releases and any changes in client delivery needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you support both Mac and Windows studio machines?▼
Yes. Plenty of studios run Pro Tools or Logic on Macs and use Windows machines for other DAWs, video sync or the office. We manage both platforms the same way: standard configurations, tested OS and driver versions, monitoring and backups. The key with studio machines is controlling updates, since an OS or driver release can break plugins or interface support. We hold updates until we've checked them against your DAW, plugins and hardware, then roll them out when the rooms are empty.
How do we stop unreleased songs from leaking?▼
Most leaks come from process, not sophisticated attacks: public links that never expire, shared passwords, files emailed to the wrong person or a collaborator's own sloppy handling. We tighten your side by using expiring, password-protected or account-based delivery links with download logs, giving everyone their own account with MFA and limiting access to client folders. You can't control what a collaborator does after download, but you can show exactly what you sent, to whom and when, which matters if a leak happens.
What's the right backup setup for a studio?▼
At minimum, sessions should live on shared storage with versioning, not on individual external drives, and that storage should back up automatically to an off-site or cloud location. Versioning protects against accidental overwrites and ransomware; the off-site copy protects against theft, fire or flood. Because sessions are big, we plan upload capacity and backup timing around your bookings. We also test restores of real projects, since a backup is only useful if the session opens with all its audio files attached.
Our iLok and plugin licenses are a mess. Can you help?▼
Yes. Over time, licenses end up on personal accounts, old dongles and machines that no longer exist. We inventory what you own, document which licenses live on which accounts and devices, and make sure ownership sits with the studio rather than an individual engineer who might leave. When a machine fails or you upgrade a room, that documentation makes moving licenses quick. We'll also flag subscriptions you're paying for but not using.
Will you change things during a session?▼
No. Studios can't afford surprise restarts or a changed driver mid-take. We plan maintenance around your booking calendar, apply updates when rooms are dark, and keep remote work on studio machines to agreed windows unless you call us about a problem. If something breaks during a session, we help troubleshoot right away, and our priority is getting the room recording again rather than fixing the root cause on the spot. The root cause gets handled after the client goes home.
Do you work with home studios and producers too?▼
Yes. Independent producers and engineers working from home face the same risks as commercial rooms: one drive holding everything, shared links and licenses tied to a personal account. The setup is smaller, but the principles are the same: versioned storage, off-site backup, private delivery and documented licenses. Most of our work is remote, which suits a home studio. If you also run a small commercial room, we can put both on the same setup so sessions move cleanly between them.
Do you provide Music & Recording Studios IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers music & recording studios IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Music & Recording Studios IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
