Commercial Contractors IT Services

Commercial builders work inside other organizations’ security programs.

SOC 2 Aligned
Responsive Support
20+ Years Experience

At a glance

Hospital systems, data center operators, universities and federal agencies hand you drawings of their facilities, expect your staff to follow their IT rules on site, and send prequalification questionnaires that ask about MFA, incident response and how you protect their data. Fall short and you don’t make the bid list.

We run managed IT and cybersecurity for commercial general contractors and construction managers.

We support VDC teams and large BIM models, build controlled environments for sensitive and federal project data, help you answer owner security reviews, protect pay applications and payments, and handle the credentials for building systems you turn over at closeout. We serve commercial builders in Texas and nationwide.

IT that keeps models coordinated, owners satisfied, turnover clean.

Managed IT and security for commercial builders working in hospitals, campuses, data centers and federal facilities.

Commercial construction IT

Building inside someone else’s security program

When you build a hospital wing, a data center or a federal facility, the owner’s security team becomes part of your job. They care who sees their drawings, how your people connect on site and what happens to building system passwords at turnover. Here’s where commercial contractors stumble, and how we close those gaps before the owner finds them.

01 · The pressure

The owner’s security rules become yours

Your VDC team coordinates Revit and Navisworks models with dozens of trade partners. Project teams share drawings of hospitals, labs and secure facilities that owners consider sensitive. Healthcare and campus owners have rules for connecting to their networks and handling patient-adjacent areas. Federal projects may carry FAR or DFARS clauses for contract information. Prequalification asks about your cybersecurity before you can bid. A breach of an owner’s facility drawings could end that relationship.

  • Sensitive facility drawings shared with trades
  • Owner IT rules for on-site connections
  • Federal clauses on contract information

02 · How it breaks

Drawings everywhere, credentials on a spreadsheet

Facility drawings get emailed to trade partners and shared through links that never expire. A subcontractor’s laptop plugs into the owner’s network during commissioning. At turnover, passwords for the access control, BAS and camera systems sit in a spreadsheet emailed to the owner’s facilities team. A federal project’s controlled drawings end up in the same file share as everything else. When the owner’s security team asks how this was handled, nobody has a clean answer.

  • Never-expiring links to facility drawings
  • Building system passwords in emailed spreadsheets
  • Federal project data mixed with everything else

03 · What we change

Controlled data, clean turnover, ready answers

Sensitive project data moves into controlled project spaces with access by role, expiring external links and logging. Federal projects with controlled information get a defined environment configured for FAR 52.204-21 or NIST SP 800-171, depending on your contract. Building system credentials get collected, stored and handed over through a password manager or encrypted transfer, with temporary construction accounts removed. VDC workstations and model servers get the hardware and backups they need. We build an evidence pack for owner reviews.

  • Expiring, logged access to facility drawings
  • A defined environment for federal project data
  • Encrypted handoff of building system credentials

04 · The after

Owners see a builder that gets security

Prequalification questionnaires get answered with evidence instead of guesses, and you stay on the bid lists that matter. Owners’ security teams see controlled access to their drawings and a clean credential handoff at closeout. Federal projects have documentation that holds up. VDC coordination runs on fast, backed-up systems. And when a healthcare or data center client asks for a meeting with your IT lead, you have someone ready to sit across the table.

  • Prequalification answers backed by evidence
  • Clean credential handoff at every closeout
  • Federal project documentation that holds up

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

Owner Security Review Support

Healthcare systems, universities, data center operators and agencies send detailed vendor security questionnaires. We help you answer accurately, build and maintain an evidence library of policies, MFA reports, backup tests and training records, and close the gaps owners care about most. When an owner wants to talk to your IT lead, we join the meeting.

Controlled Project Data Spaces

Drawings of hospitals, labs, data centers and secure facilities deserve tighter handling than a general file share. We set up project spaces with role-based access, expiring external links for trade partners, download logging and watermarking where your platform supports it, so you can show an owner exactly who saw their drawings.

Federal Project Compliance Environment

Federal contracts can carry FAR 52.204-21 basic safeguarding requirements, and DoD projects may flow down DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST SP 800-171 when drawings contain CUI. We help scope a defined environment for that project data, implement the controls and prepare documentation, without forcing your whole company into the strictest scope.

BIM and VDC Infrastructure

Large Revit, Navisworks and point cloud files need serious workstations, fast storage and reliable cloud collaboration. We spec and maintain VDC hardware, manage licenses, tune connections to Autodesk Construction Cloud or model servers and back up model archives, so coordination meetings don’t stall on a model that won’t open.

Building System Credential Turnover

Access control, BAS, cameras and network gear installed by your trades all have admin passwords. We help you collect them during construction, store them in a password manager instead of spreadsheets, remove temporary construction accounts and hand them to the owner through an encrypted, documented process at closeout.

Pay Application and Payment Security

Large commercial pay apps flow through platforms like Textura and through email. We protect those accounts with MFA, add impersonation and look-alike domain protection to email, alert on suspicious mailbox rules and help enforce a callback rule for any change in subcontractor or supplier banking details.

Why Choose LayerLogix?

Serving businesses throughout the Greater Houston area including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, Nationwide.

On the Bid Lists That Matter

Hospitals, campuses, data centers and federal owners screen contractors on cybersecurity before inviting bids. Documented controls and an evidence pack help you pass prequalification, and keep passing it as owners raise the bar from one year to the next.

Owner Trust at Closeout

A documented, encrypted handoff of building system credentials, with construction accounts removed, gives owners’ facilities and security teams confidence in what they’re inheriting. It’s a closeout detail that sets you apart and avoids awkward findings after occupancy.

Federal Work Without Company-Wide Burden

A scoped environment for federal project data lets you meet contract requirements without imposing the strictest controls on every office worker and jobsite. You can pursue federal work while the rest of the company keeps operating normally.

Faster Coordination

Properly specced VDC workstations, stable licensing and tuned cloud connections mean large models open quickly and clash detection runs without crashing. Coordination meetings stay productive, and trade partners aren’t waiting on your side to load the federated model.

Our Process

1
Inventory office and field systems, VDC workstations, project platforms, trade partner sharing methods and every owner requirement in active contracts.
2
Review recent owner questionnaires and federal contract clauses to identify which projects need controlled data handling and which controls are missing.
3
Set up controlled project spaces with role-based access and expiring links, and scope a separate environment for federal or CUI project data.
4
Protect email and pay application platforms with MFA and impersonation controls, and formalize the payment callback rule.
5
Build a building system credential process with your project teams and trades, from installation through encrypted owner handoff.
6
Maintain an evidence library, review owner requirements on new contracts, and meet with you quarterly on alerts, gaps and upcoming bids.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hospital owner sent us a vendor security questionnaire. Where do we start?▼
Start by reading what they’re actually asking for, then answer honestly with evidence. Healthcare owners usually ask about MFA, endpoint protection, backups, encryption, incident response, employee training and how you handle their drawings and any access to their network. We help you map each question to what you have today, fix the gaps that matter most, and gather proof like MFA reports and policies. Over time, that becomes a reusable evidence library, so the next owner’s questionnaire takes a day instead of a month.
Do federal construction projects require CMMC?▼
Some do. Most federal contracts include FAR 52.204-21, which sets basic safeguarding requirements for contract information. DoD projects that involve Controlled Unclassified Information, which can include certain facility drawings, may include DFARS 252.204-7012 and require NIST SP 800-171 controls, and CMMC requirements are being phased into DoD contracts. Which level applies depends on the contract and the data. We help scope an environment for that project data and implement the controls. Contract interpretation belongs with your counsel and contracting officer.
How should we hand over building system passwords to the owner?▼
Not in a spreadsheet attached to an email. We help you set up a process where trades enter admin credentials for access control, BAS, cameras and network gear into a password manager or secure form during installation. Before turnover, temporary construction accounts are removed and default passwords confirmed changed. At closeout, credentials go to the owner’s designated contact through an encrypted transfer with a documented acknowledgment. The owner’s IT and facilities teams start with a clean, known set of credentials.
Our VDC team’s models keep crashing. Can you help?▼
Often, yes. Model crashes and slow coordination usually come down to workstation hardware, graphics drivers, local storage, network speed to the model server or cloud platform, or how the federated model is structured. We check the hardware against what Revit, Navisworks and your point cloud tools actually need, update drivers carefully, tune storage and network paths, and work with your VDC manager on model management practices. When the problem is in the software itself, we take it to the vendor with logs.
Can our staff connect to an owner’s network on a hospital project?▼
Only according to the owner’s rules, and usually through a separate, controlled connection. Many healthcare and campus owners provide a contractor network or require specific device security before anything connects. We make sure your laptops meet those requirements, with encryption, endpoint protection, current patches and MFA, and that your team uses the owner’s designated network rather than plugging into whatever port is available. For commissioning work, we coordinate with the owner’s IT team on temporary access and its removal.
What happens if one of our trade partners gets breached?▼
It can affect you, especially if they had access to your project platforms or were exchanging payment emails with your team. We help you limit that exposure ahead of time with expiring links, role-based access and project-specific permissions. If a trade partner reports a breach, we review what they could reach, revoke and reissue access, check your mailboxes for related phishing and alert accounting to verify any payment changes by phone. Contract and notification questions go to your counsel.
Do you provide Commercial Contractors IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼

What does Commercial Contractors IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
