Clinical photos, path results and iPad charting, protected and always reachable

Dermatology Practices IT Services

Dermatology generates clinical images at nearly every visit, and those photos, dermoscopy captures and body maps are only useful if they're tied to the right patient and still there next year.

At a glance

Your providers chart on iPads in EMA or a similar system, biopsy results come back through pathology interfaces, and patients send photos through the portal.

We run the Wi-Fi, tablets, workstations and security behind that work, keep image storage organized and backed up, and protect the accounts that sign path reports and prescribe.

Medical and cosmetic dermatology practices in Texas and nationwide get remote help from U.S.-based engineers and local hands for exam-room hardware.

IT that keeps lesions documented, path results flowing, tablets charting.

Image-heavy dermatology runs on tablets, cameras and lab interfaces. We keep all of it reachable and locked down.

Images by the thousand

Dermatology lives and dies by its photo record

A dermatologist compares today's lesion to last year's photo, waits on dermpath results, and charts on a tablet between rooms. Each of those steps depends on IT that most practices set up once and never revisit. Here's how the day depends on it, how it breaks, and what we change.

01 · The pressure

Every visit adds photos you'll need again

Full-body skin checks, dermoscopy captures and Mohs maps pile up fast, and comparison over time is the whole point. Providers move room to room with iPads that need strong Wi-Fi and a stable EHR session. Biopsies leave for the lab and results return electronically, triggering calls to patients. If tablets drop off the network or the image store gets disorganized, you lose clinical continuity and the result follow-ups that protect patients from missed melanomas.

  • Clinical and dermoscopy photos compared visit to visit
  • Tablet charting that needs Wi-Fi in every room
  • Pathology results that trigger patient follow-up

02 · How it breaks

Photos on phones and tablets nobody manages

The most common dermatology exposure isn't the EHR, it's the camera roll. Staff snap lesion photos on personal phones to save time, and those images end up in cloud backups the practice can't see. Shared iPads stay logged in all day. A provider's email is phished, and the attacker reads path results and refill requests. Meanwhile an unpatched imaging PC in the Mohs lab sits on the same flat network as everything else.

  • Lesion photos left on personal phones
  • Shared tablets that never lock
  • Flat networks putting lab PCs beside everything

03 · What we change

Managed devices and a clean image trail

We enroll practice tablets and phones in device management, so photos go straight into the record and not a personal camera roll. Tablets lock after short idle periods and can be wiped remotely if lost. Wi-Fi is designed room by room. The Mohs lab and imaging workstations sit on their own network segment. Provider and billing mailboxes get MFA and impersonation filtering, and image stores are backed up to immutable storage with tested restores.

  • Device management for clinical iPads and phones
  • Room-by-room Wi-Fi built for tablet charting
  • Segmented lab and imaging workstations

04 · The after

A photo record you can trust and defend

Providers pull up last year's photo without hunting, and path results reach the right inbox. A lost iPad becomes a quick remote wipe instead of a breach investigation. When a patient asks where their photos are kept, or your insurer asks how mobile devices are secured, you have a real answer. And adding a cosmetic suite or another provider means extending a setup that's already documented.

  • Lost tablets wiped remotely, not reported
  • Clear answer on where every photo lives
  • Room to add cosmetic services and providers

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

EHR and Tablet Charting Support

We support the iPads, workstations and network that ModMed EMA and similar dermatology EHRs depend on. That means stable sessions as providers move between rooms, enough access points to avoid dead zones, and quick replacement when a tablet fails. Application questions go to the EHR vendor, and we stay on the ticket until it's fixed.

Clinical Image Management

Dermoscopy cameras, total body photography systems and standard clinical cameras each store images differently. We help you route them into the record or an organized image archive, control who can export them, and stop the habit of saving photos to desktops, personal phones and unmanaged folders.

Mobile Device Management

Practice-owned phones and tablets get enrolled, encrypted and locked with short timeouts. Clinical camera apps are configured so images land in approved storage. If a device is lost or stolen, we wipe it remotely and document what happened for your privacy officer. Departing staff hand back a device that's already been cleared of patient images.

Pathology and Lab Connectivity

Biopsy orders and results move between your EHR and dermpath labs through interfaces and portals that break quietly. We monitor the connections on our side, keep lab portal accounts tied to named users with MFA, and coordinate with the lab and EHR vendor when an interface stops passing results.

Mohs Lab Network Segmentation

Mohs labs run imaging workstations and connected equipment that can't always take the latest updates. We put them on their own network segment, limit what can reach them, and coordinate with the equipment vendor for anything inside the device itself. Surgery days keep running, and a compromised front-office PC can't reach the lab.

Teledermatology and Portal Security

Patients send photos through portals and telehealth visits, and staff review them from home. We secure the remote access, protect the accounts with MFA, and make sure the images patients send end up in the chart, not in someone's email inbox. Providers reviewing photos after hours do it on managed devices, not the family laptop.

Why Choose LayerLogix?

Serving businesses throughout the Greater Houston area including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, Nationwide.

Faster Visits, Fewer Re-Logins

Strong Wi-Fi and managed tablets keep EHR sessions alive as providers move between rooms. Less time waiting on reconnects means visits stay on schedule and providers stop carrying a backup laptop just in case the iPad drops off the network again.

Images That Stay Inside the Practice

Managed devices and clear storage rules keep clinical photos out of personal camera rolls and consumer cloud backups. That's the leak most dermatology practices don't realize they have until a staff member leaves with a phone full of patient images.

Results That Don't Slip

Monitored lab connections and named lab portal accounts reduce the chance a biopsy result sits unseen. Your clinical team can trust that a positive path report reaches the right provider and gets a follow-up call.

Answers for Insurers and Auditors

When a cyber insurer asks about mobile devices, MFA and backups, or a HIPAA review asks where images live, you can show configuration and logs. That's a much better position than describing what you think staff are doing with their phones.

Our Process

1
We inventory every device that captures or stores clinical images, including phones, tablets, dermoscopy cameras, body-mapping systems and Mohs lab workstations.
2
We trace where those images go today and identify copies sitting on personal devices, desktops or consumer cloud accounts.
3
We enroll practice devices in management, set storage rules, and close the obvious gaps like shared logins and missing MFA.
4
We survey Wi-Fi exam room by exam room and fix coverage so tablet charting stays connected everywhere providers work.
5
We segment lab and imaging equipment, set up immutable backups for image archives, and run a restore test.
6
We review devices, access and backups with you quarterly and plan for new providers, services or locations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our providers take photos on their phones. Is that a problem?▼
It can be. A lesion photo tied to a patient is protected health information, and personal phones usually sync to consumer cloud services the practice doesn't control. If the phone is lost, or the employee leaves, those images go with it. The fix isn't banning phones outright. We set up practice-managed devices, or a managed work profile on personal phones where your policy allows it, with a capture app that sends images straight into the chart. Your privacy officer decides the policy; we make the technology match it.
Can you support ModMed EMA?▼
We support everything around it: the iPads, Wi-Fi, workstations, printers, scanners, network and security that EMA depends on. ModMed handles the application itself, including templates, billing rules and interfaces on their side. When something breaks, we figure out whether it's the device, the network or the software, fix what's ours, and open a clear ticket with ModMed when it's theirs. That saves your staff from describing the same problem to three different support lines.
How should we store dermoscopy and total body photography images?▼
Ideally they live in, or are linked from, the patient's record, with a backed-up archive behind them. Many imaging systems keep their own database, so we make sure that database is included in backups, that only appropriate staff can export images, and that storage capacity is planned as your image library grows. We also check that image systems are tied to patient identifiers correctly. Mislabeled images are a clinical risk on top of a privacy one, and fixing the workflow often fixes both.
What do you do about the equipment in our Mohs lab?▼
We handle the IT side: the workstations, the network those machines sit on, accounts, backups and monitoring. We put lab equipment on its own segment so a problem elsewhere in the practice can't easily spread to it. For anything inside the device, such as firmware, embedded software or calibration, we coordinate with the manufacturer rather than making changes ourselves. That keeps your service agreements intact and avoids breaking equipment that has to work on surgery days.
We also offer cosmetic procedures. Does that change our IT needs?▼
A bit. Cosmetic services usually add a retail and payments side, marketing photos and sometimes a separate booking or membership platform. Card payments bring PCI DSS expectations, and before-and-after images used in marketing raise consent questions your compliance lead should own. On the IT side, we separate the payment devices from clinical systems on the network, protect the booking platform accounts, and make sure marketing photo folders don't become an untracked copy of patient images.
How quickly can you respond if something goes wrong?▼
Our people work business hours, with after-hours emergency response for active incidents like ransomware or a compromised account. Monitoring and endpoint detection run continuously and alert us to problems even when the office is closed. For everyday issues, you call or open a ticket and reach a U.S.-based engineer who knows your setup. For hardware that needs hands, like a failed exam-room workstation or access point, we send local help or direct a vetted technician on-site.
Do you provide Dermatology Practices IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers dermatology practices IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. For most Houston-area clients we can be on-site the same day when something needs hands-on attention, and our help desk is available during business hours, with after-hours emergency support. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Dermatology Practices IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
