Quiet, dependable IT for the calls, records and services families rely on

Funeral Homes IT Services

A funeral home holds some of the most sensitive information a family ever shares, at the worst moment of their lives, and a breach or outage there costs trust that no apology repairs.

At a glance

Your staff move from the first call to arrangements, death certificate filing, obituaries, livestreamed services and preneed contracts, often across several locations and at any hour.

Those records live in case management software, email, shared folders and the state's electronic death registration system.

We manage the IT behind that work for funeral homes in Texas and nationwide: case management and office systems, phones, livestream setups, Microsoft 365, backups and security monitoring, with U.S.-based engineers who understand that services can't be rescheduled.

IT that keeps families' trust, services streaming, records in order.

Case files, preneed contracts and service-day technology handled carefully, so your staff can stay focused on families.

Funeral service

Every case is someone's family

Families hand you Social Security numbers, insurance policies, medical details and their grief, often in a single meeting. Your systems hold all of it for years. Here's what your day depends on, how funeral homes actually get hit and what we change so families never hear about it.

01 · The pressure

First call to final disposition

A first call can come in at 2 a.m., and from there your team opens a case, schedules removal, meets the family, prepares a statement of goods and services, files the death certificate and coordinates with cemeteries, crematories, clergy and florists. Services may be livestreamed for relatives who can't travel. If case management or email goes down the morning of a service, staff are piecing together times and details from memory while a family waits in the lobby.

  • Case files with family and decedent details
  • Death certificate filing through state systems
  • Service-day livestreams and slideshows

02 · How it breaks

Insurance assignments and a shared front PC

Attackers know funeral homes handle insurance assignments and payments from families under stress. A phished director's mailbox gets used to send a family new payment instructions. The arrangement room PC is shared by every director with one saved password. Obituary and memorial sites collect form submissions with no spam or abuse protection. And at multi-location firms, a satellite chapel connects through an old router nobody has touched since the acquisition.

  • Fake payment instructions sent to grieving families
  • Shared arrangement room PC with saved passwords
  • Satellite chapels on forgotten routers

03 · What we change

Named access, protected files, steady service days

Every director gets a named account with MFA on email, case management and the state death registration login. Shared arrangement PCs get fast user switching and auto-lock. Microsoft 365 gets impersonation protection and alerts on mailbox forwarding rules. Case files, preneed contracts and price list records get immutable backups. Each chapel joins a managed network. We test livestream and slideshow setups before services and keep endpoints under 24/7 SOC monitoring.

  • MFA for every director and state system login
  • Immutable backups of case and preneed files
  • Livestream setups tested before services

04 · The after

Families never see the technology

Your funeral director in charge stops bracing for the morning-of-service computer problem. Families get payment instructions they can verify, and staff follow a call-back rule before changing anything. When a state board inspector asks for price lists or signed statements, they're organized and retained. Your insurer gets real answers about MFA and backups. The technology fades into the background, which is where it belongs in this work.

  • Price lists and statements retained and findable
  • A verification rule families can count on
  • Fewer service-morning technology surprises

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

Case Management Software Support

Passare, FrontRunner Professional, Osiris and similar platforms hold your cases, contracts and contacts. We support the PCs, browsers, servers or cloud accounts behind them, manage director logins with MFA and coordinate with the vendor on issues, so nobody is calling support from the arrangement room with a family waiting.

Family Data Protection

Case files contain Social Security numbers, insurance policies and medical information. We restrict access by role, encrypt laptops, lock down shared folders and set up immutable backups, so sensitive family information stays inside your firm and remains available years later when a relative calls with a question.

Livestream & Service-Day Tech

Families increasingly expect remote relatives to watch services. We set up reliable chapel networks, camera and encoder connections, slideshow PCs and a test routine before each service. If something misbehaves on the day, staff have a simple fallback and a number to call during business hours.

Phones & After-Hours Call Routing

First calls come at all hours. We set up cloud phone systems that route after-hours calls to the on-call director or your answering service, record greetings for each location and keep mobile apps working, so a family never reaches a dead line in the middle of the night.

Payment & Insurance Fraud Defense

Insurance assignments, family payments and vendor invoices all move by email. We add MFA, impersonation protection and forwarding-rule alerts in Microsoft 365, and help you adopt a rule that any change to payment instructions gets confirmed by phone, so a family never sends money to an attacker.

Funeral Rule & Preneed Record Retention

The FTC Funeral Rule requires keeping copies of price lists and signed statements, and preneed contracts can stay open for decades. We set up organized, backed-up storage with sensible retention settings, so those records survive staff turnover, computer replacements and acquisitions without anyone having to remember where they are.

Why Choose LayerLogix?

Serving businesses throughout the Greater Houston area including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, Nationwide.

Trust That Holds Over Years

Families return to the firms that served them well, sometimes across generations. Protecting their information and keeping service days calm reinforces that relationship, and avoids the kind of breach letter that spreads quickly in a small community.

Calmer Service Days

Livestreams, slideshows and chapel audio get tested ahead of time, and staff know the fallback if something fails. The service runs for the family, not around a frozen laptop or a dropped stream. Directors can stay with the family instead of the equipment.

Ready for Board Inspections

State boards and inspectors review price lists, statements and contracts. When those records are organized, retained and backed up, inspections go faster and depend less on which staff member happens to remember the filing system.

One Standard for Every Chapel

Multi-location firms get the same network, phone and security setup at each chapel, managed from one place. Acquired locations join that standard quickly, and our U.S.-based engineers know every site when something needs attention. Nobody has to guess how a chapel was set up.

Our Process

1
Visit or remotely survey each chapel and office to document PCs, phones, livestream gear, networks and which systems hold family records.
2
Review case management, email and state death registration accounts, and replace shared logins with named access and MFA.
3
Set up immutable backups for case files, preneed contracts and price list records with a retention plan your management approves.
4
Configure phones for after-hours first-call routing and test the full path from a caller to the on-call director.
5
Build a pre-service checklist for livestream, slideshow and audio, and train staff on the fallback steps.
6
Monitor endpoints with 24/7 SOC coverage and review access, open risks and any acquisitions with you each quarter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the FTC Funeral Rule affect our IT?▼
In one specific way: records. The Funeral Rule requires you to give families itemized price lists and a statement of goods and services selected, and to keep copies of price lists and statements for at least a year. If those live in case management software or digital files, they need to be retained, protected and retrievable. We set up storage and backups that support that. What your price lists must contain and how you comply is for your management and counsel.
Is a funeral home covered by HIPAA?▼
Generally, funeral homes aren't HIPAA covered entities, though hospitals and physicians may share information with you under HIPAA's rules. That doesn't make the information less sensitive. Case files often include medical details, Social Security numbers and insurance data, and state laws on personal information and breach notification can still apply. Your attorney can confirm exactly what applies. Either way, we protect those records with access controls, encryption, MFA and backups, because families expect it.
Can you set up livestreaming for our chapels?▼
Yes, from the IT side. We make sure each chapel has a wired connection and upload bandwidth suitable for streaming, configure the encoder or streaming PC, connect cameras and audio feeds and set up the account with your streaming or memorial platform. We also create a short checklist staff run before each service and a fallback, like a backup stream from a tablet. Camera placement and production choices stay with you; we make the technology dependable.
How do criminals target funeral homes?▼
Mostly through email and payments. An attacker compromises a director's mailbox, watches conversations and then sends a family or insurer new payment instructions. Others impersonate a funeral home to target families directly, using details from public obituaries. We add MFA, impersonation and lookalike-domain detection, forwarding-rule alerts and training for staff on what these messages look like. We also suggest telling families up front that you'll never change payment instructions by email alone.
We're acquiring another funeral home. What happens to their IT?▼
We assess it before or right after closing: their case management data, email, phones, preneed records and any devices with family information on them. Then we plan the migration into your systems, carefully preserving historical case and preneed files you'll need for years. Their location joins your standard network and security setup. Old accounts get closed and devices get wiped properly. We schedule the cutover around their service calendar so families aren't affected.
What happens if our case management system is down on a service day?▼
If it's a cloud platform, we check whether the problem is local, like an internet outage or a PC issue, and get staff working from a backup connection or another device. If it's the vendor, we open the ticket and keep you posted. For firms with on-site systems, we restore from tested backups. We also recommend printing the day's service details each morning as a simple fallback. Engineers work business hours, with after-hours emergency response for active incidents.
Do you provide Funeral Homes IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers funeral homes IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Funeral Homes IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
