A homeowner says they got an email from us with new wire instructions. What happened?▼
Most likely someone got into an office or salesperson mailbox, read the thread, and sent a convincing message at the right moment. Sometimes it comes from a lookalike domain instead. Tell the homeowner not to pay and to call you at a number they already know. Then call us: we'll check for compromised accounts and hidden forwarding rules, reset credentials, and review what was exposed. Notification decisions belong with your attorney. Going forward, MFA, domain impersonation protection and a written rule you share with every homeowner make this far less likely.
Our techs all share one login to the route app. Is that a big deal?▼
It causes more trouble than it seems. With one login you can't tell who closed a stop, who changed a customer note or who added a chemical charge, which matters when a customer disputes a visit. You also can't remove one tech's access without changing the password for everyone. Most route platforms charge per user, so this is often a cost decision, but named accounts pay for themselves in fewer disputes and cleaner offboarding. We'll help set up roles so techs only see their routes and customers.
Do tech phones really need device management?▼
If they carry customer information, yes. Truck phones usually hold gate codes, alarm instructions, photos of backyards and sometimes payment screens. Device management lets you require a passcode, encrypt the device, limit apps to what techs need, and lock or wipe a lost phone remotely. It also makes it easy to hand a phone to a new hire with everything already set up. It works whether the company owns the phones or techs use their own, with separate work profiles for personal devices.
Can you help with our pool design software?▼
We support the workstations and environment it runs on: graphics cards, drivers, storage, licensing, backups and network access for sharing projects between designers. Questions about the design features themselves go to the software vendor, and we're happy to open those tickets with them. Most problems we see come from underpowered machines, outdated graphics drivers or project files saved only to one desktop. We fix those first, so presentations render reliably and a dead laptop doesn't take a homeowner's design with it.
Does PCI DSS apply to a pool service company?▼
If you accept credit or debit cards, PCI DSS 4.0 applies, but the effort depends on how you take payments. Charging cards through your route software or processor's hosted page keeps most card handling on their side. Writing card numbers on paper, saving them in a spreadsheet or taking them over email widens your scope and your risk. We help you route every payment through your processor, remove stray card data and complete the right self-assessment, so autopay keeps running without unnecessary exposure.
We're small. Is managed IT overkill for a pool company?▼
Not if a stolen deposit or a lost design file would hurt. A pool company with a handful of office staff and a few trucks needs the same basics as a larger builder: MFA on email, named software accounts, managed phones, backups and someone who answers when something breaks. We size the work to your company, handle most of it remotely, and keep the off-season for planning so spring isn't a scramble. As you add crews or a second location, the setup grows with you.

What does Pool Builders & Service IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
