Why do our Revit central models keep corrupting for remote staff?▼
Usually because central files are being opened directly over a VPN or a slow link that wasn’t designed for worksharing traffic. Interrupted saves and syncs are a common cause of corruption. Fixes include moving worksharing to Autodesk Construction Cloud, using a file caching solution between offices and home, or providing remote desktop access to workstations in the office so the model never crosses the slow link. We look at your setup and recommend the option that fits your team and budget.
Should we move projects to Autodesk Construction Cloud?▼
It depends on how distributed your team is and how you collaborate. Cloud worksharing works well for firms with many remote staff and frequent consultant collaboration, while a fast local server can still make sense for a single-office studio. Some firms use both. We assess your projects, connection speeds and consultant workflows, then plan a migration that doesn’t interrupt active projects. We also make sure you still have independent backups, since cloud collaboration isn’t the same as backup.
How do you spec workstations for BIM and rendering?▼
We start from your software mix and project size. Revit benefits from high single-core CPU speed and plenty of memory, while real-time rendering in Enscape or Twinmotion leans heavily on the GPU. We pick graphics cards on Autodesk’s tested hardware lists, standardize builds so every designer has the same environment, and control driver updates. For occasional heavy rendering, a shared render workstation or cloud rendering can be more cost-effective than upgrading every desk. We plan refreshes before machines fall behind.
How should we share drawings and models with consultants?▼
Through a platform with permissions, expiring links and logging, rather than open file-sharing links or email attachments. Autodesk Construction Cloud, SharePoint and similar platforms let you share by project and phase, require consultants to sign in, and revoke access when their scope ends. We set up the folder structure and sharing rules, and train project managers on the routine so it becomes habit rather than an extra step. Old links get cleaned up at project closeout.
We’ve been asked to work on a defense project. What changes?▼
If the project involves controlled unclassified information, your contract may include DFARS 252.204-7012, which requires implementing NIST SP 800-171 controls on systems that handle it, and possibly CMMC requirements. Rather than changing your whole studio, many firms create a separate enclave for that project’s data. We help scope it, implement and document the controls, and prepare evidence for your prime contractor. Your contracts team should confirm which clauses apply. Your main studio network stays as it is.
Can you support multiple studios and remote designers?▼
Yes. Most of our work is remote by U.S.-based engineers, which suits distributed design teams. We standardize workstations, storage access and security policies so every studio and home office works the same way. For hands-on needs like plotters, network gear or workstation swaps, we handle work directly near our offices or send a vetted local technician directed by our engineer. Every location gets the same help desk, the same backups and the same security baseline.
