IT for suppliers whose OEM customers count late shipments by the hour

Automotive Suppliers IT Services

Automotive suppliers run on just-in-time schedules, and when EDI stops receiving releases or ASNs stop going out, a customer's assembly line feels it fast and the chargebacks follow.

At a glance

Your plant mixes ERP terminals, label printers, PLC-driven cells and shared shop floor PCs, while engineering exchanges CAD data and PPAP files with OEMs who now ask about information security in their supplier audits.

We manage the IT that keeps releases flowing: EDI connectivity, ERP and MES support, plant networks, backups and the boundary between office and production. Changes inside line controls stay with your controls engineers. We support tier-one and tier-two suppliers in Texas and nationwide.

IT that keeps releases flowing, ASNs on time, lines off hold.

EDI, ERP, plant networks and TISAX groundwork for suppliers who live and die by the ship schedule.

Automotive suppliers

The OEM's line starts with your EDI feed

A supplier can run a flawless press shop and still end up in a chargeback dispute because an ASN never transmitted. Here's what the plant depends on every shift, how suppliers usually get hurt, what we fix and what changes once IT is no longer the weak link in delivery.

01 · The pressure

Releases in, labels and ASNs out

Overnight, customers send 830 forecasts and 862 shipping schedules through EDI. Production control turns them into jobs in the ERP, the floor builds to sequence, shipping prints AIAG labels and sends 856 ASNs before trucks leave the dock. Quality keeps PPAP files, control plans and gauge records ready for the next audit. If EDI, the label printers or the ERP go down for a shift, you're expediting parts, paying premium freight and answering uncomfortable calls from a supplier quality engineer.

  • EDI releases and ASNs on tight windows
  • ERP, labels and shipping on one chain
  • PPAP and quality records for audits

02 · How it breaks

Shared PCs and a flat plant network

Supplier incidents tend to start small. A shop floor PC with a generic login is used to check personal email between cycles. The EDI translator runs on one aging server nobody has restored from backup. A machine builder's remote access tool is still installed on a cell PC from commissioning two years ago. Office, plant and guest Wi-Fi share one network, so ransomware that starts in accounting reaches the floor terminals. Engineering emails CAD files to a sub-tier vendor with no idea where they end up.

  • Generic logins on shop floor terminals
  • Leftover machine builder remote tools
  • Single unprotected EDI server

03 · What we change

Protected EDI and a separated floor

We document your EDI flows end to end and make the translator recoverable: backed up, monitored and with a tested restore or cloud failover. The plant network gets separated into office, production and guest zones at a managed firewall, with machine builder access moved to named, logged and time-limited sessions. Shop floor terminals get individual or badge-based logins and application control. Engineering file exchange moves to controlled sharing. Line PLC and robot changes stay with your controls engineers.

  • Recoverable, monitored EDI translator
  • Zoned network for office and production
  • Controlled CAD and PPAP file sharing

04 · The after

Audits and outages both get shorter

A failed server now means a restore you've already rehearsed, not a weekend of manual ASNs. When an OEM asks for a TISAX assessment or sends an information security questionnaire, you have policies, network diagrams, access records and evidence ready to share. IATF auditors asking about record retention get a straight answer. And the plant manager stops wondering whether one bad click in accounting could take down the line, because the network is built so it can't spread that way.

  • Rehearsed recovery for EDI and ERP
  • TISAX and questionnaire evidence ready
  • Office incidents contained from the floor

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

EDI Connectivity & Recovery

We support the servers, VANs or AS2 connections and translators that carry your 830s, 862s and 856s. Failed transmissions get alerted, translator configurations get backed up, and we test recovery so an outage doesn't turn into a day of manual ASN entry and missed delivery windows.

Plant Network Segmentation

We split office, production and guest traffic into separate zones at a managed firewall, using ISA/IEC 62443 zone concepts. Production cells only talk to the systems they need, like MES and the ERP. Changes inside PLCs, robots or vision systems are coordinated with your controls engineers and machine builders.

TISAX Readiness Support

If an OEM requires a TISAX label, we help you prepare: gap review against the VDA ISA catalog, policies, access controls, logging and evidence collection for the IT controls. The assessment itself is done by an accredited audit provider. We get your environment and documentation ready for it.

Shop Floor Terminal Control

Shared PCs at work cells are a common way in. We replace generic logins with individual or badge-based accounts where practical, restrict what can run, block personal browsing and keep those terminals patched in windows that don't interrupt production. Each terminal is documented so a replacement can be staged before the next shift.

Machine Builder Remote Access

Integrators and equipment vendors need to support cells remotely. We remove leftover remote tools, then provide named, MFA-protected access through a jump host that you can enable for a service window. Every session is logged so you know who touched what equipment and when. No cell keeps an always-on connection by default.

ERP, MES & Quality System Support

Your ERP, MES and quality systems hold jobs, inventory, traceability and PPAP records. We keep the servers or cloud connections healthy, coordinate vendor updates around production schedules, protect logins with MFA and back up the data with regular restore tests. Traceability records stay available for IATF audits and customer complaints.

Why Choose LayerLogix?

Serving businesses throughout the Greater Houston area including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, Nationwide.

Fewer Premium Freight Days

When EDI, labels and ERP recover quickly, you're not expediting parts because a system failure delayed a shipment. Keeping the delivery chain running protects your scorecard with every OEM customer. It also cuts the overtime spent re-keying shipments after an outage.

Ransomware Contained to One Zone

A segmented plant means an infected office laptop doesn't reach the floor terminals and MES. You may lose an office system for a while, but production keeps building to schedule. Recovery is faster too, because there are fewer systems to clean.

Customer Audits Go Faster

Policies, diagrams, access reviews and backup evidence are kept current, so TISAX preparation and OEM security questionnaires draw on existing records instead of a scramble across departments. Your quality manager stops being the person chasing IT for screenshots the night before an assessor shows up.

Detection Across Office and Plant IT

Office systems and plant floor terminals that can run agents get managed detection and response with 24/7 SOC monitoring. Our team handles follow-up during business hours, with after-hours emergency response for active incidents. Alerts come with context about which cell or department is involved.

Our Process

1
Walk the plant with production control, quality and maintenance to map EDI flows, ERP and MES touchpoints, cells and remote tools.
2
Identify single points of failure in EDI, labeling and ERP, and set recovery targets with you based on customer delivery windows.
3
Install managed firewalls, separate office, production and guest zones, and move machine builder access to logged named sessions.
4
Lock down shop floor terminals, enroll endpoints in managed detection and set patch windows around shifts and changeovers.
5
Back up EDI, ERP, MES and quality data to immutable storage and run a timed restore test with production control watching.
6
Collect policies and evidence for TISAX or OEM questionnaires, then review controls, access and backups with you each quarter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every automotive supplier need TISAX?▼
No. TISAX is required when a customer, typically a European OEM or a tier one working with one, asks for a specific assessment level. Many suppliers to U.S. OEMs instead get information security questionnaires or audits built on similar controls. Check your customer contracts and supplier portals for the actual requirement. If TISAX is required, an accredited audit provider performs the assessment and the result is shared through the ENX portal. We help you get the IT controls, policies and evidence ready so the assessment finds a working program rather than a pile of new documents.
Can you support our EDI if a third party handles the mapping?▼
Yes. Many suppliers outsource maps and trading partner setup to an EDI provider or VAN while keeping a translator or integration server in-house. We handle the infrastructure: the server or cloud connection, AS2 certificates, firewall rules, monitoring for failed transmissions, and backups of configurations. When a map breaks or a customer changes a spec, we coordinate with your EDI provider so production control isn't stuck in the middle. The goal is that nobody discovers a missed 862 when the customer calls asking where the parts are.
Will segmenting the plant network disrupt production?▼
Done carelessly it could, which is why we plan it with your controls engineers and maintenance team. We start by observing what traffic the cells, MES and ERP actually exchange, then build firewall rules that allow it before enforcing anything. Changes happen during planned downtime or changeovers, one area at a time, with a rollback plan. We don't change PLC programs, robot configurations or vision systems; if a device needs a new IP address or setting, your controls team or the machine builder makes that change while we handle the network side.
What do OEMs ask suppliers about cybersecurity?▼
Common questions cover MFA on email and remote access, endpoint protection, backup and recovery testing, how CAD and customer data are shared, incident response plans, who has administrator rights and how vendors connect to plant equipment. Some customers also ask about how you assess your own sub-tier suppliers. The answers need to be accurate, because a wrong one can surface later in an audit or after an incident. We help you answer honestly, and where the true answer is no, we plan the work to change it and document the timeline.
How should we share CAD files and PPAP documents with customers?▼
Through controlled channels, not personal email or random file-sharing links. Many OEMs provide supplier portals or required exchange tools, and those should be the default for their data. For sub-tier suppliers and internal teams, we set up managed sharing in Microsoft 365 or a similar platform, with expiring links, access limited to named people and logging of downloads. That keeps customer design data where your NDAs say it should be, and it gives you a record if a customer ever asks who received a particular drawing.
Do you only work with plants near your offices?▼
No. Most monitoring, help desk and engineering work is done remotely by U.S.-based engineers, which suits suppliers with plants in several states. For physical work such as installing firewalls, recabling a cell or swapping a failed switch, we handle it ourselves near our offices or direct a vetted local technician while our engineer stays on the call. That lets us support automotive suppliers in any state without making every fix wait for travel.
Do you provide Automotive Suppliers IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers automotive suppliers IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. For most Houston-area clients we can be on-site the same day when something needs hands-on attention, and our help desk is available during business hours, with after-hours emergency support. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Automotive Suppliers IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
