Cabinet & Millwork Shops IT Services

In most cabinet and millwork shops, one designer's laptop holds every drawing, every price and every client's kitchen, and nobody has checked whether it's backed up.

At a glance

That laptop feeds shop drawings to architects and general contractors, cut lists to the CNC, and quotes to homeowners who pay deposits by email invoice.

We take care of the computers and accounts behind that flow: backups for design files and libraries, version control for submittals, a safe path from the office to the router, managed tablets for field measures and installers, and protection against the invoice scams that target your clients.

We support residential cabinet shops and commercial millwork firms in Texas and nationwide.

IT that keeps submittals approved, the router fed, deposits yours.

Design files, submittals, CNC programs and client payments looked after for custom cabinet and architectural millwork shops.

Cabinet and millwork shops

Field measure to final install

A cabinet job starts with a tape measure and ends with a punch list. In between, the designer draws it, the architect or homeowner approves it, the shop cuts and assembles it, and the install crew fits it to walls that are never square. Each step depends on a file being current.

01 · The pressure

One laptop holds every job in the shop

Small shops run on a few people wearing many hats. Your designer draws in Mozaik, KCD or Cabinet Vision, exports cut lists to the router and sends shop drawings for approval. The office invoices deposits and progress payments. Installers pull field measures from a tablet. If the design laptop dies or the library gets corrupted, every open job is stuck until somebody rebuilds years of door styles, materials and pricing.

  • Design libraries built up over years
  • Shop drawings waiting on architect approval
  • Deposits invoiced by email

02 · How it breaks

A fake invoice in your client's inbox

The common disaster isn't a movie-style hack. It's an attacker who gets into the office mailbox, watches a kitchen remodel thread and sends the homeowner an invoice with new bank details. Or a revised elevation gets built from the old PDF because three versions sat in an email chain. Or the router PC browses the web on the shop Wi-Fi, picks up malware and stops taking programs mid-week.

  • Hijacked mailboxes sending fake invoices
  • Old drawing revisions built by mistake
  • Router PCs used for web browsing

03 · What we change

Backups, versions and a locked mailbox

We back up design files and libraries every night and test restores. Submittals move to a shared folder with version history, so the shop builds from the approved set. The office mailbox gets MFA and spoofing protection, and your invoices tell clients to call before paying any new account. The router PC goes on its own network segment with web browsing blocked, and programs reach it from a single controlled folder.

  • Nightly backups of design libraries
  • Version history on every submittal
  • MFA and anti-spoofing on office email

04 · The after

The shop runs even when the designer's out

If the design laptop breaks, a replacement gets restored with your library in an afternoon. The shop floor knows the folder it cuts from is the approved version. Homeowners and GCs know to call before wiring money, and your controller sleeps better. When a commercial GC sends a prequalification form asking about backups and MFA, you answer yes and mean it.

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

Design Software and Library Backups

Your door styles, construction methods, materials and price tables are the shop's memory. We back up Mozaik, KCD, Cabinet Vision and 2020 Design data nightly to the cloud, test restores, and document license transfers so a dead laptop doesn't mean calling three vendors and rebuilding from scratch.

Shop Drawing and Submittal Control

Commercial millwork lives on submittals: shop drawings marked up in Bluebeam, returned with comments and revised. We set up shared folders or SharePoint with version history and clear naming, so the shop builds from the approved revision and the PM can show the GC exactly what was approved and when.

Safe Office-to-CNC File Path

The router PC needs programs, not web browsing. We put it on its own network segment, block internet access it doesn't need and feed it from one controlled folder. Controller software and machine settings stay with the CNC manufacturer or your service tech, and we coordinate with them before any change.

Client Payment and Invoice Protection

Kitchen and built-in clients pay large deposits, which makes your email a target. We lock down the mailbox with MFA, add SPF, DKIM and DMARC so nobody can easily spoof your domain, and help you add a simple call-to-confirm line to invoices and contracts. We also review who can send money from your accounting system.

Field Measure and Installer Tablets

Field measures, site photos and install drawings travel on tablets and phones that get dropped, lost and left in trucks. We enroll them in device management, encrypt them, keep apps current and let you wipe a lost device remotely without touching the installer's personal photos.

Help for a Shop Without an IT Person

Most cabinet shops have nobody whose job is IT. We become that person: setting up new computers, sorting printer and plotter problems, handling Microsoft 365 accounts and answering the designer's call when a render won't finish. You get one number to call instead of a nephew.

Why Choose LayerLogix?

Serving businesses throughout the Greater Houston area including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, Nationwide.

No Single Laptop Can Sink the Shop

With libraries and job files backed up and documented, losing a computer becomes an inconvenience. Design work picks back up quickly, and open jobs don't stall while someone rebuilds years of settings from memory. Your designer gets back to drawing.

Fewer Rebuilds From Wrong Drawings

Version history and one approved folder cut down the expensive mistake of building from last week's elevation. Material, labor and install dates stay where you planned them. The install crew shows up with boxes that actually fit the room, and you stop eating the cost of recutting panels.

Clients Keep Trusting Your Invoices

A client who loses a deposit to a fake invoice often blames the shop, fairly or not. Protecting your email and teaching clients to confirm by phone keeps those payments, and your reputation, safe. Word of mouth stays positive.

Commercial Work Gets Easier to Win

Larger general contractors increasingly ask subs about cybersecurity during prequalification. Honest answers about backups, MFA and device management put your millwork bid on the same footing as bigger shops. That can open the door to bigger projects.

Our Process

1
Sit with your designer and office manager to find where design libraries, job files, submittals and client contacts actually live today.
2
Set up nightly cloud backups of design data and libraries, then restore one full job to a spare machine to prove it works.
3
Move submittals and approved drawings into shared folders with version history and naming rules the shop and PMs can follow.
4
Separate the router PC onto its own network, block browsing and set one controlled folder for programs coming from the office.
5
Add MFA and anti-spoofing to email, enroll field tablets in device management, and update invoices with a call-to-confirm payment line.
6
Handle day-to-day support and patching, and check backups and accounts every quarter or when someone joins or leaves the shop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our designer keeps everything on one laptop. What's the fastest fix?▼
Start with an automatic, off-site backup of that laptop, including the design software's library and job folders, not just the desktop. Then prove it works by restoring a real job to a different computer. Most design packages store libraries in specific folders or databases, and missing one means losing door styles or pricing. After that, we look at moving active jobs to shared storage so they aren't tied to one machine, and we write down license and activation steps. That way a broken laptop becomes a half-day problem rather than a lost week.
How do we stop the shop from cutting from an old revision?▼
Give the shop one place to look and make it hard to save anywhere else. We set up a shared folder or SharePoint library for each job with an Approved subfolder, version history turned on, and a naming rule that includes the revision and date. The designer or PM moves a drawing into Approved only after the architect or client signs off. The shop computer and router feed pull only from that folder. Old versions are still recoverable, but nobody has to dig through email chains to guess which PDF is current.
A client says they paid our invoice but we never got the money. What happened?▼
Often, someone got into an email account, either yours or the client's, and sent a lookalike invoice with different bank details. First, call the client's bank and yours right away; speed matters for any chance of recovery. Then we check your mailbox for forwarding rules, unknown logins and messages sent from your account. If your account was the source, we lock it down, reset credentials and add MFA. Questions about who bears the loss or whether to notify anyone should go to your attorney. Afterward, a call-to-confirm line on every invoice helps prevent a repeat.
Can the router PC just stay on the shop Wi-Fi?▼
It can stay connected, but not on the same open network everyone's phone uses. Router and saw PCs often run older Windows versions that the machine maker supports, and they rarely have good antivirus. We put that PC on its own network segment that can reach only the folder or server sending it programs, and we block general internet access. We don't change controller software or machine parameters; that's the CNC manufacturer's or your service tech's territory, and we coordinate with them if a network change affects how the machine receives files.
Our installers use their own phones for measures and photos. Is that a problem?▼
It's common and workable, but it means job photos, client addresses and drawings sit on devices you don't control. We can enroll personal phones in a light mode that manages only the work apps and data, so you can remove company files when someone leaves without touching their personal photos. For shared crew tablets, we use full device management with encryption and remote wipe. Either way, measures and photos sync to the job folder, so a lost phone doesn't mean re-measuring a kitchen.
Do you only work with shops near your offices?▼
No. Almost everything a cabinet shop needs, including backups, email security, account setup, device management and help desk calls, we handle remotely with U.S.-based engineers. When hands-on work is needed, such as running a cable to the router or installing a firewall, we do it ourselves near our offices or send a vetted local technician directed by our engineer. Our engineers work business hours with after-hours emergency response for active incidents, and alerts are watched with 24/7 automated monitoring.

What does Cabinet & Millwork Shops IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
