Harden the people, phones and laptops that can approve a transaction

Digital Asset & Crypto Firms IT Services

In a digital asset firm, a stolen password isn’t the worst case: an approved transaction is, because once funds move on chain there’s no bank to call and no chargeback to file.

At a glance

Attackers know that, so they go after the humans who hold signing authority, through SIM swaps, fake recruiters, poisoned browser extensions and deepfaked calls from an executive.

We run corporate IT and cybersecurity for crypto funds, trading desks, custody and payments startups, mining operators’ back offices and Web3 development teams.

We harden signer laptops and phones, lock down identity and email, screen new hires and contractors for device risk, and help document the controls regulators and banking partners expect. We support crypto and Web3 teams in Texas and nationwide.

Security that guards every signer, every approval, every phone number.

Corporate IT and security for crypto teams whose biggest attack surface is the people allowed to move funds.

Inside a crypto firm

Attackers don’t break the chain. They break a person

Your custody platform may be sound, with policy engines, multi-party approvals and cold storage. But approvals still happen on someone’s laptop or phone, and that someone has a phone number, a personal email, a LinkedIn profile and a recruiter in their inbox. That’s where attacks on digital asset firms usually begin.

01 · The pressure

Irreversible transfers, public targets and fast markets

Traders need to move quickly when markets do. Operations staff approve withdrawals and rebalance wallets across exchanges and custodians. Engineers ship code that touches keys or smart contracts. Each of those people is publicly identifiable and worth targeting. A single compromised approver can mean a transfer you can’t reverse, a public incident disclosure, frozen banking relationships and questions from regulators, auditors and every customer who trusted you with their assets.

  • On-chain transfers can’t be reversed
  • Your approvers are publicly identifiable
  • Banking partners freeze fast after an incident

02 · How it breaks

SIM swaps, fake job offers and a bad browser extension

An attacker ports an executive’s phone number and resets every account that trusted SMS codes. A developer runs a take-home coding test from a fake recruiter, and malware drains their session tokens. A malicious browser wallet extension sits on an ops laptop. A new remote contractor turns out to be using a false identity and a laptop farm. A deepfaked voice call from the CEO asks finance to whitelist a new withdrawal address before the weekend.

  • Ported phone numbers defeat SMS codes
  • Poisoned coding tests from fake recruiters
  • Hired contractors with borrowed identities

03 · What we change

Dedicated signer devices and phishing-resistant identity

Anyone who can approve a transaction gets a dedicated, locked-down signer device used for nothing else, plus hardware security keys for identity. SMS recovery goes away, and carrier port locks go on every staff number. Browser extensions get allowlisted across the fleet. We add identity verification steps to contractor onboarding, sandbox take-home code and coding tests, and write an out-of-band verification rule for any request to change whitelists, approvers or treasury policy.

  • Dedicated, single-purpose signer devices
  • Hardware keys and no SMS recovery
  • Verified identities before contractor access

04 · The after

Approvals you can trust, evidence you can show

Your custody policies finally sit on endpoints that match their seriousness. A ported phone number becomes an annoyance, not a breach. Hiring managers have a clear check before a new contractor touches code or keys. When a regulator, an auditor or a banking partner asks how approvals are protected, you show device inventories, key enrollment, extension policies and the verification log for every whitelist change, instead of describing good intentions.

  • Approver devices inventoried and enforced
  • Whitelist changes logged and verified
  • Diligence answered with real evidence

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

Signer and Approver Device Hardening

The devices used to approve transactions deserve their own build. We set up dedicated laptops or phones for signers with full-disk encryption, no email or general browsing, allowlisted applications, locked-down USB and automatic updates. They’re enrolled in management, monitored by EDR and inventoried, so you always know which devices can touch your custody platform and who holds them.

SIM Swap and Account Takeover Defense

Phone numbers are a weak link. We move staff off SMS codes to hardware security keys or authenticator apps, help each person set carrier port-out locks and account PINs, remove phone numbers as recovery options on critical accounts and alert on suspicious sign-in patterns. Executives get extra attention because their numbers are easiest to find.

Hiring and Contractor Identity Checks

Digital asset firms are a known target for fake job candidates and contractors working under false identities. We help your hiring team add identity verification steps, ship managed devices instead of allowing personal machines, check for remote-control software and location anomalies on contractor laptops, and limit what new hires can reach until they’re verified.

Browser and Extension Governance

Wallet extensions, drainer scripts and malicious updates to legitimate extensions are a direct path to stolen funds and session tokens. We enforce a managed browser, allowlist the extensions your team actually needs, block unknown installs, isolate any hot wallet testing to separate profiles and watch for extension changes across the fleet.

Treasury Change Verification

Requests to add withdrawal addresses, change approvers or move funds between wallets are the moments attackers try to hijack. We help you write a verification procedure that requires a second channel for confirmation, never just chat or email, and log each verification so auditors and your board can see it was followed every time.

Developer Workstation Protection

Engineers run unfamiliar code all day, which is exactly what attackers exploit with poisoned packages and fake coding tests. We isolate untrusted code in virtual machines or containers, protect repository and cloud credentials with hardware keys, scan for leaked secrets and keep production key material away from everyday development laptops.

Why Choose LayerLogix?

Serving businesses throughout the Greater Houston area including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, Nationwide.

A Smaller Human Attack Surface

Dedicated signer devices, hardware keys and port locks close the routes attackers use most against crypto teams. Your people can still be targeted, but a single phished password or ported number no longer leads straight to an approved transfer.

Cleaner Banking and Partner Diligence

Banks, custodians and exchanges review the firms they serve. A documented security program with device inventories, identity controls and verification logs helps those reviews go faster and shows partners you treat operational security as seriously as they do.

Safer Hiring at Speed

You can keep hiring remote engineers quickly without wondering who’s really on the other end. Verification steps and managed devices catch red flags before anyone gets close to code, keys or customer data, and offboarding cuts access the same day.

Faster Response When Something’s Off

Managed detection and response watches endpoints and identity with 24/7 SOC monitoring, and U.S.-based engineers handle remediation during business hours with after-hours emergency response for active incidents. Suspicious sessions get cut before an attacker can stage a withdrawal request.

Our Process

1
Identify every person and device that can approve, initiate or change a transaction, along with the accounts and phone numbers tied to them.
2
Review identity, email, browser and endpoint settings against how attackers actually target digital asset teams.
3
Issue dedicated signer devices and hardware security keys, remove SMS recovery and set carrier port locks for every staff member.
4
Allowlist browser extensions, isolate untrusted code for developers and deploy managed detection and response across the fleet.
5
Add identity checks and managed devices to hiring and contractor onboarding, and write the treasury change verification procedure.
6
Document controls for regulators and partners, run social engineering drills and review signer access each quarter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you manage our custody platform or smart contracts?▼
No. Your custody provider, wallet infrastructure and smart contracts belong to your engineering team and specialist vendors and auditors. We handle the corporate side that surrounds them: identity, email, laptops, phones, browsers, networks, backups and the people processes that attackers exploit. That’s where most real-world compromises of crypto firms start, so hardening it protects the custody setup you’ve already invested in. We coordinate with your custody provider when device or access policies touch their platform.
Which regulations apply to a digital asset company’s IT?▼
It depends on what you do and where. Businesses that transmit convertible virtual currency are generally money transmitters under FinCEN rules, with BSA and AML obligations, including the Travel Rule for certain transfers. OFAC sanctions apply to everyone. New York licensees face the BitLicense and NYDFS cybersecurity regulation. Many firms also fall under the FTC Safeguards Rule or state money transmitter laws. Your counsel determines which apply; we build and document the security controls those rules expect.
How do SIM swaps lead to stolen crypto?▼
An attacker convinces or bribes a mobile carrier to move your phone number to their SIM. Every account that uses that number for text message codes or password recovery is now theirs to reset, including email, exchange accounts and sometimes internal tools. From there they look for wallet access or approve requests in your name. The fix is to remove phone numbers from authentication entirely, use hardware security keys and set port-out PINs with every carrier.
What should we do about fake job candidates?▼
Treat hiring as part of security. Verify identity with a live video check against a government ID, ship company-managed laptops to a verified address rather than allowing personal devices, and watch for remote-control tools, VPN location mismatches or one person logging in from several laptops. Limit new hires to non-sensitive systems until verification is complete. If something doesn’t add up, cut access quickly and preserve logs for your counsel. We set up the device checks and alerts; your hiring and legal teams make the decisions.
Our CEO sometimes asks for urgent transfers by chat. Is that a problem?▼
It’s exactly what attackers imitate. Chat accounts get hijacked, and voice and video can now be convincingly faked. Agree on a rule that any request to move funds, add a withdrawal address or change approvers must be confirmed through a second, pre-agreed channel and follow your custody platform’s normal approval policy, regardless of who’s asking or how urgent it sounds. Executives should endorse the rule publicly so staff feel safe saying no to them.
Can you work with a small, fully remote team?▼
Yes, and most digital asset firms are exactly that. We manage Mac and Windows laptops remotely, ship pre-configured devices to new hires, run identity in Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 with an identity provider in front, and keep security policies consistent no matter where people live. Engineers can reach U.S.-based support during business hours, and signer devices get the same care whether the approver sits in Chicago or Lisbon. As you grow, the same controls scale without rebuilding everything.
