Security for the people who underwrite, bind and pay claims on someone else’s paper

Insurance Carriers & MGAs IT Services

Carriers and MGAs sit on the richest data in the insurance chain, from underwriting files and claims notes to bank details for every claimant you pay, and the carriers who delegate authority to you will audit how you protect it.

At a glance

We run IT and cybersecurity for regional carriers, managing general agents and program administrators who need enterprise-grade controls without an enterprise security department.

That covers identity and privileged access around your policy administration and claims systems, payment-change verification for claim disbursements, third-party oversight of TPAs and adjusters, and monitoring that produces evidence.

We align controls with the NAIC Insurance Data Security Model Law in adopting states, NYDFS Part 500, and HIPAA where you write health or disability lines. We work with insurers in Texas and nationwide.

Security that keeps claims paid right, binders audit-ready, authority intact.

IT and security for the carriers and MGAs whose underwriting, claims and delegated authority depend on clean, provable controls.

Carriers and MGAs

Delegated authority comes with delegated scrutiny

An MGA binds on a carrier’s paper, reports bordereaux monthly and pays claims through a TPA or its own adjusters. Each step depends on systems other people trust you to protect. When a capacity provider sends its annual audit, they want evidence, not reassurance, and a single fraudulent claim payment can cost you the relationship.

01 · The pressure

Underwriting, claims and reporting can’t stop

Your policy administration system rates and issues. Claims staff open files, reserve and cut checks or ACH payments. Finance assembles premium and loss bordereaux for capacity providers and reinsurers. If the PAS goes dark, producers can’t bind and your carrier partners see the gap in reporting. If claims data leaks, you’re notifying claimants, your domiciliary regulator and the carrier whose paper you write on, then explaining why your controls didn’t match what you represented in the program agreement.

  • PAS downtime stops binding across your producers
  • Bordereaux gaps get noticed by capacity providers
  • Claims data breaches reach multiple regulators

02 · How it breaks

Claim payment redirection and over-trusted third parties

Attackers love claims departments. A spoofed email from a contractor or claimant’s attorney changes payee bank details, and an adjuster updates the record without a callback. A TPA’s compromised account reaches into your shared claims portal. An underwriter’s phished mailbox gives a criminal loss runs and submission data to resell. Privileged admins on the PAS share one account, so no one can say who changed a rating table. Old SFTP jobs to reinsurers still run with passwords set years ago.

  • Spoofed payee changes on claim disbursements
  • TPA and adjuster accounts with too much reach
  • Shared admin logins on the policy system

03 · What we change

Least privilege, verified payments, watched third parties

We put named, MFA-protected admin accounts on your PAS and claims platform, with privileged access management for the few who can change rates, forms or payment settings. Payee bank changes require out-of-band verification and a second approver. TPA and vendor access moves to scoped accounts with logging and an expiry date. We replace password-based SFTP with key-based transfers, add managed detection and response across endpoints and cloud identity, and keep immutable backups of claims and policy data.

  • Privileged access management on PAS and claims
  • Dual approval and callback on payee changes
  • Scoped, expiring access for TPAs and vendors

04 · The after

Audits answered with evidence, not adjectives

When a carrier partner or reinsurer sends its security questionnaire, you answer with access reviews, MFA reports, backup test logs and an incident response plan that’s been exercised. Your board or principals get a short quarterly risk summary written in plain language. Claims staff follow a payment-change process that doesn’t rely on spotting a fake email. And if your state adopted the NAIC model law, the annual filing reflects a real risk assessment.

  • Questionnaires answered with exported evidence
  • Plain-language risk summary for leadership
  • Payment controls that don’t depend on luck

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

Privileged Access for Core Insurance Systems

Guidewire, Duck Creek, Majesco, Insurity and homegrown policy systems all have admin roles that can change rating, forms or payment settings. We replace shared admin logins with named accounts, enforce MFA, apply privileged access management with approval and session logging, and run quarterly access reviews you can hand a carrier auditor.

Claims Disbursement Fraud Controls

We work with your claims leadership to put technical guardrails on payment changes: alerts when payee bank details change, dual approval in the claims or payment system where it’s supported, email impersonation filtering, and a written callback procedure using contact data already on file. The goal is that no single email can redirect a claim payment.

Third-Party and TPA Oversight

TPAs, independent adjusters, premium auditors and IT vendors all touch your data. We inventory who has access to what, move them to individual scoped accounts with expiry dates, collect their security attestations, and log their activity. That inventory becomes the third-party service provider section of your security program.

Managed Detection and Response

Endpoints, servers and cloud identity feed into managed detection and response with 24/7 SOC monitoring, so suspicious logins, token theft and ransomware behavior get triaged around the clock. Our engineers follow up during business hours, with after-hours emergency response for active incidents and a clear escalation path to your leadership and counsel.

Secure Data Exchange with Partners

Bordereaux, loss runs and claims files move between you, carriers, reinsurers and TPAs every month. We replace password-based SFTP and email attachments with key-based transfer, encrypted portals and logging, document each data flow, and clean up stale jobs and service accounts nobody remembers creating. You get a current map of who sends what to whom.

Security Program and Regulatory Mapping

We help you build and maintain a risk-based information security program that maps to the NAIC Insurance Data Security Model Law where adopted, NYDFS Part 500 for New York licensees, and the HIPAA Security Rule if you write health lines. Your counsel handles legal interpretation and notification decisions; we supply the controls and the evidence.

Keep Your Capacity Relationships Healthy

Carriers and reinsurers increasingly treat an MGA’s security posture as part of underwriting the program. Documented controls and fast, accurate audit answers protect the relationships your premium volume depends on, and they make renewal conversations about the business instead of your gaps.

Claim Payments Go to the Right Payee

Callback rules, dual approval and alerts on bank-detail changes turn claims payment fraud from a single bad click into something that needs several people to miss it. Your claims staff get a clear process, and finance gets a record of every verified change.

Know Who Can Change What

Named admin accounts, approval workflows and session logs mean you can answer which person changed a rating table or a payment setting and when. That clarity helps with regulators, carrier audits, and internal disputes long before any incident happens.

Recover Core Data After an Attack

Immutable, tested backups of policy and claims data, plus a rehearsed recovery runbook, mean ransomware becomes a recovery exercise rather than a negotiation. You’ll know in advance how long restoring the PAS and claims system takes and who does what.

Our Process

1
Map your policy, claims, billing and reporting systems, plus every carrier, reinsurer, TPA and vendor that exchanges data with you.
2
Run a risk assessment against the NAIC model law, NYDFS Part 500 and HIPAA where your licenses and lines bring them into scope.
3
Lock down privileged access on core systems and put dual approval and callback controls on claim payee changes.
4
Deploy managed detection and response, immutable backups of policy and claims data, and encrypted key-based transfers for partner reporting.
5
Document the security program, third-party oversight records and an incident response plan, then rehearse it with leadership.
6
Run quarterly access reviews and keep an evidence folder ready for carrier, reinsurer and regulator requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our carrier partners audit us every year. What evidence do they usually want?▼
Most capacity providers and reinsurers ask for a current information security policy, proof of MFA on email and remote access, endpoint protection status, backup and restore test results, an incident response plan, access review records, and how you oversee vendors like TPAs. Some also want penetration test summaries or a SOC 2 report from your hosting providers. We build an evidence folder that’s refreshed quarterly, so your answers reflect what’s running today. When a questionnaire asks something we can’t evidence yet, we’ll tell you and fix it rather than paper over it.
How do we stop fraudulent claim payment changes?▼
Treat any change to payee bank details as a high-risk event. Technically, we set alerts when payment details change, enable dual approval in your claims or payment platform where it supports it, filter impersonation and look-alike domains, and enforce MFA so adjuster mailboxes are harder to take over. Procedurally, we help you write a callback rule: verify every change by phone using contact data already on the file, never the number in the email. Together those controls make a single spoofed email far less likely to move money.
Does NYDFS Part 500 apply to an MGA?▼
If your MGA holds a license from the New York Department of Financial Services, it’s generally a covered entity under 23 NYCRR Part 500. The amended regulation added requirements around governance, MFA, asset inventory, privileged access and incident reporting, with some obligations varying by company size. Your counsel should confirm your status and any exemptions. We map your environment to the applicable sections, close technical gaps, and prepare the documentation your compliance officer needs for the annual submission to DFS.
We write some health and disability business. Does HIPAA apply?▼
A health insurer or health plan is a HIPAA covered entity, and an MGA or TPA that handles protected health information on its behalf usually operates as a business associate under a BAA. Either way, the HIPAA Security Rule expects risk analysis, access controls, audit logging, encryption decisions and contingency planning for systems holding ePHI. We help you apply those safeguards to claims and underwriting systems alongside your insurance-regulator obligations, so you’re maintaining one program rather than two that disagree.
Can you work with our in-house IT team?▼
Yes. Many carriers and MGAs have an IT lead or small team that knows the policy system deeply but can’t also run security operations. We can take on managed detection and response, privileged access, vendor oversight and compliance evidence while your team keeps ownership of the PAS, integrations and business applications. We agree on who owns which systems, share a ticketing view, and avoid changing anything inside your core platforms without your team’s sign-off.
How do you handle a suspected breach of claims data?▼
First, containment: isolate affected accounts and systems, preserve logs, and stop further data movement. Our engineers respond during business hours, with after-hours emergency response for active incidents, while managed detection and response keeps watching. We document a timeline of what was accessed and when. Decisions about notifying regulators, carriers, claimants or law enforcement belong to your leadership and counsel, and we give them the technical facts they need to make those calls quickly.
