At a glance

That makes your order system and your financing desk the heart of the business, and both carry data thieves want: customer identities, credit applications and payment details.

We run IT and security for furniture, mattress and appliance retailers in Texas and nationwide.

We protect the showroom network, the systems that hold credit applications, warehouse scanners and the tablets your delivery and install crews carry, and we back up the order database that ties it all together.

IT that keeps special orders on time, credit apps private, trucks loaded right.

Order management, financing, warehouse and delivery systems kept connected, protected and recoverable for big-ticket retail.

From showroom to doorstep

A big-ticket sale lives for weeks in your system

Selling a sectional or a kitchen appliance package means a deposit, a financing application, a vendor order, a warehouse receipt, a delivery window and sometimes an install. Every step sits in your retail management system and a few vendor portals. Here’s where that chain breaks, and how we keep it intact.

01 · The pressure

Open orders are money you haven’t delivered

At any moment you’re holding customer deposits against orders that haven’t arrived, financing approvals waiting to fund, and a delivery schedule built around warehouse stock. Salespeople need the order system on the showroom floor, the financing desk needs the lender portals, and drivers need routes and addresses on their tablets. If the order database goes down or gets encrypted, you can’t tell who paid for what, which pieces are in the warehouse, or who’s getting a delivery tomorrow.

  • Customer deposits held against pending orders
  • Lender portals drive same-day financing approvals
  • Delivery routes built from warehouse stock

02 · How it breaks

Credit apps, crew tablets and fake vendors

Financing desks collect Social Security numbers and income details, sometimes on paper scanned to a shared folder or emailed to a manager. That folder becomes a gift to anyone who gets in. Vendor invoice fraud is common: a spoofed manufacturer email asks you to update remittance details before a container ships. Delivery tablets get lost or left logged in. And showroom PCs often run on the same flat network as the warehouse and the guest Wi-Fi.

  • Credit apps scanned into a shared folder
  • Spoofed supplier asks to change bank details
  • Lost delivery tablet still signed in

03 · What we change

Close the folder, verify the payee

Credit applications move into the lender portal or an encrypted, access-controlled location, and we clean the old scans out of shared drives and inboxes with you. MFA goes on email, the retail system and lender portals. We help you set a call-back rule for any supplier banking change. Showroom, financing desk, warehouse, cameras and guest Wi-Fi each get their own network zone. Crew tablets come under device management, and the order database gets versioned, offsite backup.

  • Old credit app scans found and removed
  • Call-back rule on every supplier banking change
  • Crew tablets managed and remotely wipeable

04 · The after

Every order traceable, every app accounted for

You know where customer financial data lives and who can see it, which is what the FTC Safeguards Rule expects if you extend credit. A spoofed supplier email gets caught by a phone call, not discovered after a wire. If a server fails, you restore the order database and pick up the delivery schedule where it left off. And when a driver leaves a tablet at a customer’s house, it’s wiped before anyone opens it.

  • Customer financial data mapped and restricted
  • Supplier payment fraud stopped by a phone call
  • Order database restores without losing deliveries

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

Retail Management System Support

Your retail management system holds orders, deposits, purchase orders, inventory and delivery schedules. We keep the server or cloud connection healthy, manage the Windows and SQL layers where they’re ours to manage, back up the database with versioned copies, and coordinate with the software vendor on upgrades so a version change doesn’t break the showroom on a Saturday.

Financing Desk Data Protection

Credit applications contain Social Security numbers, income and employment details. We help you keep that data in the lender portal or an encrypted, access-limited location, purge stale scans from inboxes and shared drives, and put MFA on every lender portal login. If you offer in-house credit, we help you build the safeguards program the FTC Safeguards Rule calls for.

Warehouse and Receiving Network

Warehouses need Wi-Fi that reaches the back racks and the loading dock, handheld scanners that stay connected, and label printers that keep up with receiving. We survey, install and manage that network, keep it separate from the showroom and office, and monitor the switches and access points that go dead in a hot warehouse closet.

Delivery and Install Crew Devices

Drivers and installers carry tablets or phones with customer names, addresses, routes and signature capture. We enroll them in device management, require a passcode, push the delivery and routing apps, and wipe them remotely when lost. Crews get access only to the apps they need, not your email or financing records.

Supplier Payment Fraud Defense

Manufacturers, importers and freight forwarders send a steady flow of invoices, and attackers impersonate them to redirect payments. We tighten email authentication and filtering, flag lookalike domains and external senders, and help you put in place a documented call-back procedure for any change to a supplier’s remittance details before your accounting team pays.

Showroom Network and Kiosks

Showroom tablets, design kiosks, digital price tags, POS terminals, cameras and customer Wi-Fi all share the floor. We segment them so guest traffic and a design kiosk can’t reach the order system or card readers. POS terminals and PIN pads stay in their own zone, which keeps your PCI DSS 4.0 scope smaller.

Deposits and Orders You Can Always Trace

Versioned backups of the order database mean a failed server or ransomware attempt doesn’t erase the record of who paid deposits and what’s on order. You restore, reconcile and keep delivering, instead of rebuilding weeks of orders from paper tickets and memory.

Less Exposure on Credit Data

Purging old credit applications from inboxes and shared drives removes the most valuable thing an intruder could find. What remains sits behind MFA and access controls, so a phished salesperson’s mailbox no longer leads to a pile of customer Social Security numbers.

Payments Go to Real Suppliers

A call-back rule plus better email filtering stops the classic redirected-remittance scam. Your accounts payable person has a clear process to follow and permission to slow down a payment that doesn’t feel right, even when the email sounds urgent.

Crews That Stay on Schedule

Managed tablets with the right apps and reliable connectivity keep drivers on route and installers on time. A lost or broken device is replaced and configured quickly, so one bad morning doesn’t ripple through the whole delivery calendar.

Our Process

1
Walk the showroom, financing desk, warehouse and dock, and list every system that touches orders, deposits, credit applications and deliveries.
2
Find where credit applications and customer IDs actually live today, including inboxes, scanners and shared drives, and agree on where they should live.
3
Add MFA to email, the retail system and lender portals, then set up a written call-back rule for supplier banking changes.
4
Segment the showroom, financing desk, warehouse, cameras, POS and guest Wi-Fi into separate zones with managed firewalls and access points.
5
Enroll crew tablets and warehouse scanners in device management, and set up versioned offsite backup of the order database with a restore test.
6
Review quarterly: access changes, lender portal users, warehouse Wi-Fi health, backup tests and any Safeguards Rule program updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the FTC Safeguards Rule apply to a furniture store?▼
It can. The FTC Safeguards Rule covers non-bank businesses that are financial institutions under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and a retailer that extends credit to customers, such as issuing its own store credit, is one of the examples the FTC uses. If you only pass applications to an outside lender, the analysis is different. Your counsel should make that call. If it applies, we help you build the required program: a qualified individual, risk assessment, access controls, encryption, MFA, monitoring and an incident response plan.
Our financing applications are on paper. Is that a problem?▼
Paper itself isn’t the issue; what happens next usually is. Paper applications get scanned to a shared folder, emailed to a manager for approval, or left in a desk drawer at the financing desk. Over a few years, that adds up to a large pile of identity data with weak protection. We help you route applications into the lender’s portal where possible, store any required copies in an encrypted, access-limited location, purge the old scans, and set a shredding routine for paper you no longer need to keep.
Can you support our retail management software?▼
We support everything around it: the server or cloud connection, Windows and SQL patching where we manage it, network access from the showroom and warehouse, workstation setup, user accounts, and database backup. The software vendor still owns the application itself and its upgrades. When an issue involves both, we work it with their support team so you don’t have to translate between them. We also plan upgrade timing around your sales events.
How do we protect delivery tablets with customer addresses?▼
Delivery and install devices hold names, addresses, phone numbers and sometimes delivery photos inside a customer’s home. We enroll each device in management, require a passcode and encryption, restrict it to the delivery and routing apps, and keep remote wipe ready. If a driver leaves, their account is shut off and the device is reset for the next person. Crews keep moving, and a lost tablet becomes an inconvenience instead of a privacy problem.
We sell appliances with installation. Any extra IT concerns?▼
A few. Install techs often need manufacturer portals for warranty registration, parts ordering and service bulletins, and those logins tend to get shared across the crew. We set up named accounts or a password manager so access is tracked and can be removed. Smart appliances on display in the showroom also join your Wi-Fi, so we keep them on a separate network from POS and office systems. Connected appliance setup in customers’ homes stays with the manufacturer’s app and support.
What happens if ransomware hits our order system?▼
First, containment: isolating affected machines and stopping spread, with our engineers available after hours for active incidents. Then recovery from versioned backups kept offsite and out of reach of a compromised network account. We test those restores in advance so you know how long it takes. Your counsel and insurer decide on notification and any legal steps, and we give them the technical facts. The goal is that you can see which deposits and deliveries are pending again quickly, without guessing.
Do you provide Furniture & Appliance Retail IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers furniture & appliance retail IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Furniture & Appliance Retail IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
