We use a hosted POS and e-commerce platform. Do we still need IT help?▼
The platform vendor secures their servers, not your logins, devices or network. Most incidents at small retailers happen on the account side: a phished owner email, an admin password reused from another site, an app with too much access, or a payout account changed by someone who shouldn’t have been able to. We handle the parts the vendor won’t: MFA, roles, app reviews, store Wi-Fi and terminals, staff onboarding and offboarding, and the back-office PCs where your bookkeeping and email live.
What does PCI DSS 4.0 mean for a small shop?▼
If you take cards, you’re a merchant under PCI DSS, and your processor will ask for an annual self-assessment questionnaire. With modern hosted checkout and encrypted card readers, your scope can be small, but only if the readers sit on a protected network and nobody keys card numbers into a PC or writes them down for special orders. We set that up, document it, and walk through the questionnaire with you. The attestation is yours to sign, and you’ll know why each answer is true.
How do we stop gift card fraud?▼
Most gift card losses come from three places: an attacker with admin access issuing cards, staff issuing or loading cards without approval, and online balance checking abused to find active cards. We limit issuance rights to a few roles, add alerts for unusual volume, require named logins on the POS so every issuance is tied to a person, and review your platform’s fraud settings. None of that stops you from selling cards; it just makes abuse visible quickly.
Are our text message and email lists a compliance risk?▼
They can be. Marketing texts fall under the TCPA, which expects documented consent, and commercial email falls under CAN-SPAM, which requires things like a working unsubscribe. The legal reading of how those rules apply to your program belongs with your counsel. What we do is make sure you know which tools hold your lists, that consent records and opt-outs are kept, and that former employees and old apps no longer have access to export those lists.
Can you help us open a second or third location?▼
Yes. A new store needs a firewall, Wi-Fi, terminals and readers, printers, a back-office PC, POS location setup and staff accounts. We build a standard kit from your first store, ship or install it, and connect the new location to your existing POS and inventory so stock transfers and reporting work from day one. The second store should take far less effort than the first, and the third less still.
We’re a small team. Who handles IT issues during the day?▼
You call or open a ticket with us. Our U.S.-based engineers handle most issues remotely during business hours: a frozen terminal, a printer that won’t pair, a staff member locked out, a sync error between POS and web store. For active security incidents, like a hijacked admin account, there’s after-hours emergency response. If hardware needs hands-on work, we come out near our offices or send a vetted local technician directed by our engineer.

What does Specialty Retailers IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
