Charge accounts, feed records and rural registers kept running through every season.

Farm & Ranch Supply Stores IT Services

Farm and ranch supply stores carry customers on charge accounts, sell feed and animal health products that come with recordkeeping duties, and often run on a single rural internet line that drops when the weather turns.

At a glance

A lost day of sales during spring planting or a corrupted accounts receivable file at month end hurts more than most retailers realize.

Your counter staff handle tax-exempt ag sales, special orders for fencing and equipment parts, Veterinary Feed Directive orders and the occasional bulk delivery ticket.

We support the POS and ag retail software, protect customer account data, back up feed and medication records, set up cellular failover and manage the PCs and network at every store.

We support farm and ranch retailers in Texas and nationwide, from a single feed store to a multi-location cooperative.

IT that keeps the counter open, charge accounts right, feed orders on time.

Point of sale, ranch charge accounts and feed records protected for rural stores where the internet isn't always cooperative.

Farm & ranch supply

The whole county shops at one counter

A farm store's regulars run tabs, call in orders before sunrise and expect you to know which mineral their cattle get. Behind that counter sit customer charge accounts, tax exemption records, feed and animal health paperwork, special orders and delivery schedules. Most of it lives in one system on a network that has to survive dirt, heat and a long way from town.

01 · The pressure

Planting season, hay season and month-end statements

Spring brings seed, fertilizer and chick days. Summer is fencing, hay equipment parts and livestock show supplies for the kids. Through it all, ranchers buy on account, the office sends monthly statements and the feed department fills Veterinary Feed Directive orders that have to match a vet's paperwork. When the POS or the ag software goes down, charge sales get written on paper, and somebody spends the next week keying them in and fixing mistakes.

  • Customer charge accounts billed monthly
  • Feed and animal health orders with paperwork
  • Seasonal peaks around planting and shows

02 · How it breaks

A down internet line and a too-trusting office PC

The only internet connection is a fixed wireless link that drops in storms, taking card processing with it. The office PC that holds accounts receivable also gets used for personal email, and one bad attachment encrypts the whole share. Everyone uses the same POS login, so nobody knows who adjusted a customer's balance. VFD copies sit in a filing box or a scanner folder with no backup. And a spoofed vendor email asks accounts payable to update banking for a seed supplier.

  • Single rural internet line with no backup
  • Accounts receivable on a shared office PC
  • Feed paperwork stored without any backup

03 · What we change

Failover, named logins and records that survive

We add a managed firewall with cellular failover so the counter can keep taking cards when the main line drops. Every employee gets a named POS and ag software login, with balance adjustments and credit limit changes limited to managers. Office PCs get endpoint protection and are kept for work only. Accounts receivable, customer records and VFD documents are backed up off site and tested. Vendor bank changes require a callback before anyone pays.

  • Cellular failover for card processing
  • Named logins with limits on balance changes
  • Off-site backups for accounts and feed records

04 · The after

Open for business whatever the weather does

When a storm takes out the fixed wireless tower, the store keeps ringing sales on the backup line. Month-end statements go out on time because the account data is safe and current. If a state inspector or a vet asks for a VFD record, you can find it. Ownership can see who changed what on a customer account. And when you add another location or a feed mill office, it plugs into the same standard setup.

  • Sales continue through internet outages
  • Feed and medication records easy to produce
  • Every account change traced to a person

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

POS and Ag Retail Software Support

We keep Agvance, Epicor Eagle, Paladin or your POS running on stable, patched workstations, with receipt printers, scales, barcode scanners and card terminals working at every lane. We coordinate with the software vendor on updates and data issues, and make sure the database behind your charge accounts is backed up every night.

Rural Internet Failover

Fixed wireless, DSL and satellite links in rural areas drop more often than city fiber. We install a managed firewall that switches to a cellular line automatically, monitor both connections and alert you when the store is running on backup, so card sales and account lookups keep working through storms.

Charge Account and Credit Controls

Customer charge accounts are money you're owed. We set up role-based permissions so only managers can change credit limits, adjust balances or write off charges, and make sure every adjustment is logged with a name. Customer account data stays in the system instead of on spreadsheets passed around the office.

Feed and Animal Health Record Backup

Veterinary Feed Directive copies, medicated feed records and other animal health paperwork need to be kept and produced on request. We set up a scan-and-file workflow into a structured, backed-up folder, so a flooded back office, a dead PC or a ransomware hit doesn't take your required records with it.

Store and Warehouse Network

Feed warehouses, yards and metal buildings are hard on network gear and Wi-Fi. We plan coverage for handheld scanners in the warehouse and yard, use equipment that tolerates dust and heat, and separate the payment network from cameras, guest Wi-Fi and the office. Yard scanners stay connected far from the building.

Office PC and Email Protection

The PC that runs accounts receivable and payables shouldn't double as a personal browser. We lock it down with endpoint detection, patching and web filtering, protect email with MFA and phishing filters and add a callback rule for any supplier banking change, which is where most farm store fraud starts.

Why Choose LayerLogix?

Serving businesses throughout the Greater Houston area including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, Nationwide.

Sales Through Storms and Outages

Automatic cellular failover keeps card processing and account lookups running when the main line goes down. Customers don't get sent home empty-handed, and your staff don't spend days entering paper tickets afterward. Your busiest Saturday in spring stays a sales day.

Accounts Receivable You Can Trust

Backed-up account data and controlled balance changes mean statements go out accurate and on time. You know who adjusted a customer's balance and why, which protects relationships with your longtime ranch accounts. Disputes get settled with facts instead of memory.

Records Ready for Inspectors and Vets

Feed and animal health records sit in a searchable, backed-up library. When a vet, a customer or a state inspector asks for a document, you can pull it up quickly instead of digging through boxes in the back.

One Standard Across Stores

Every location runs the same firewall, POS setup, backups and logins. Opening or acquiring another store becomes a planned project, and staff can cover at a sister store without learning a new setup. Reports roll up across every location cleanly.

Our Process

1
We visit or survey each store, listing internet connections, lanes, scales, scanners, office PCs, warehouse coverage and the software you depend on.
2
A managed firewall with cellular failover goes in, and the network is split into payment, office, warehouse, camera and guest zones.
3
Every employee gets a named POS and ag software login, with credit and balance permissions limited to managers.
4
We set up nightly backups of the POS and accounts database plus a scan-and-file workflow for feed and animal health records.
5
Office PCs get endpoint protection, patching and email security, and we put a callback rule in place for supplier payment changes.
6
Before each busy season we check backups, failover and lane hardware, and we review access as staff change.

Frequently Asked Questions

What feed records does our store need to keep?▼
If you distribute medicated feed under a Veterinary Feed Directive, FDA rules at 21 CFR 558.6 require you to keep copies of VFDs and related records for a set period and make them available for inspection. States add their own feed and pesticide dealer rules. We aren't regulators or lawyers, so confirm the exact requirements with your state department of agriculture or counsel. Our job is to make sure the records you're required to keep are scanned, organized and backed up where an inspector request won't turn into a scramble.
Our internet goes out every time there's a storm. What can we do?▼
Add a second path. We install a business firewall that supports two connections and add a cellular line as automatic backup. When the main connection drops, card processing and cloud software switch over within moments, and we get an alert so you know you're on backup. If cell coverage is weak, we test carriers on site and can mount an outdoor antenna. For stores with very limited options, we prioritize payment traffic so the counter stays up even on a slow link.
Do you support Agvance and other ag retail software?▼
We support the computers, network, user accounts, backups and integrations around them, and work with the software vendor's support team on application issues. That includes keeping workstations and servers healthy, managing logins and permissions, making sure scales, printers and terminals work with the POS and confirming the database backs up and restores properly. If you're moving from an on-premise server to a hosted version, we help plan the cutover around your slow season.
How do we stop employees from changing customer balances?▼
Start by giving everyone their own login. Then use your POS or ag software's permission settings so only managers can adjust balances, change credit limits, issue credits or write off accounts. Turn on audit logging for those actions and have the office review a simple exceptions report each week. We set up the roles, remove the shared logins and make the review easy to do. Most balance problems turn out to be honest mistakes, and named logins make those easy to fix too.
Should our tax exemption certificates be stored digitally?▼
Keeping digital copies is a good idea, as long as they're protected. Ag exemption certificates and registration numbers identify your customers, and states expect you to produce them if a sale is questioned. We set up a scanned, backed-up folder or use the document feature in your POS so certificates attach to the customer record. Access is limited to staff who need it, and nothing sits on a desktop or in someone's email. Your accountant can confirm how long your state expects them kept.
We have several stores and a feed mill. Can one provider cover every location?▼
Yes. We put every location on the same firewall, network design, backup routine and login standard, then manage them centrally. Our engineers handle most work remotely, and hands-on tasks are done locally near our offices or by a vetted local technician directed by our engineer. At a feed mill, we secure the office and IT side and the boundary to any batching or mill control systems, and coordinate with the controls vendor for anything inside that equipment.
Do you provide Farm & Ranch Supply Stores IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers farm & ranch supply stores IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Farm & Ranch Supply Stores IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
