Can you support our agronomy and grain software, or just the computers?▼
We support the full stack around it. That means the servers and databases your ERP runs on, the network every branch uses to reach it, client installs, printers that print scale tickets and the Microsoft 365 accounts your staff log into. For application questions, like how a blend recipe posts or how patronage codes calculate, your software vendor stays the expert. We open and manage those tickets with them, give them the server access they need for the session and close it afterward, so your controller isn't caught in the middle.
We've merged with two other co-ops. Where do you start?▼
With an inventory. Merged co-ops usually have three of everything: firewalls, email domains, file servers and admin passwords nobody can find. We document what each location runs, decide which pieces become the standard and build a migration order that avoids your busy seasons. Usually email and identity come first, because unifying Microsoft 365 and turning on MFA reduces risk fastest. Network and server consolidation follow branch by branch, with each site's cutover scheduled for a slow week.
How do you handle branches with poor rural internet?▼
Rural branches often have one copper or fixed-wireless line that drops in bad weather. We add a cellular or satellite backup link on the branch firewall so it fails over on its own, and we size traffic so the ERP session and card terminals get priority over everything else. Where the ERP supports it, we also look at whether a branch should run through a hosted or terminal server setup, which tends to hold up better on a weak connection than a fat client talking straight to the database.
Do member equity and patronage records need special protection?▼
They're financial records your members rely on for years, and they feed IRS Form 1099-PATR reporting, so we treat them like accounting data. That means restricted access, logging of who changes what, immutable backups held off-site and a documented retention approach your accountants agree with. We don't decide how long you keep records or how you report patronage, since that belongs with your CPA and counsel, but we make sure the systems can support whatever they decide.
Our applicators use tablets in the cab. Can you manage those?▼
Yes. We enroll the tablets in device management so they get updates, can be located if lost and can be wiped if stolen. Prescription and field files sync from secure storage rather than living in someone's personal email. We also separate the tablets from the office network so a lost device doesn't become a way in. If the tablets connect to equipment displays, we handle the IT side and leave anything inside the machine's own software to the dealer or OEM.
What happens if ransomware hits during year-end close?▼
Our SOC isolates affected machines, we contain the spread and start recovery from immutable backups that the attacker can't encrypt. Engineers work business hours, with after-hours emergency response for active incidents, so a Saturday attack still gets people on it. Because we've already run restore tests, you'll know roughly how long getting the ERP back takes. Decisions about notifying members, lenders or regulators belong with your counsel and insurer, and we give them the timeline and technical facts they need.
Do you provide Agricultural Cooperatives IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers agricultural cooperatives IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. For most Houston-area clients we can be on-site the same day when something needs hands-on attention, and our help desk is available during business hours, with after-hours emergency support. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Agricultural Cooperatives IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
