Why would hackers target a farm?▼
Mostly for money. Farms make large, regular payments for grain, land, seed, chemicals and equipment, often arranged by email, and criminals know it. A hijacked mailbox lets them insert fake bank details at the right moment. Ransomware groups also target agriculture during planting and harvest, when downtime is most painful, and the FBI has warned cooperatives about exactly that. You don't need to be a large operation to be a target. You just need to be paying bills by email.
Who should have access to our Deere or FieldView account?▼
Each person who needs it, with their own login. Family members, employees, your agronomist and your dealer should each have individual access at the right level instead of sharing one username and password. Most precision ag platforms let you grant specific permissions to staff and partners and remove them later. We help set that up, turn on MFA where available and review access when an employee leaves or you change dealers or agronomy providers.
We got an email changing the elevator's bank details. What do we do?▼
Stop and call the elevator using a number you already have, not one from the email. Confirm the change with someone you know. Payment-change emails are the most common scam in agriculture, and they often come from a real account that's been hijacked, so they can look completely normal. If you've already sent money, call your bank right away, since speed matters for recovery. Then call us, and we'll check whether your own mailbox was compromised.
Our internet is unreliable. Can you help?▼
Yes. We look at what's available at your address, such as fiber, fixed wireless, cable, cellular and satellite, and recommend a primary connection plus a backup. A cellular or satellite failover keeps the office online when the main link goes down. We also extend Wi-Fi to the shop, bins and equipment yard so tablets and in-cab displays can sync. We'll be honest about what's possible where you are, since rural options vary a lot.
Do you manage irrigation controllers or equipment software?▼
We handle the network and account side: putting connected irrigation, bin monitoring and telematics devices on a separate network from the office, securing the apps and logins used to manage them, and making sure passwords aren't defaults. Firmware, configuration and repairs inside the equipment stay with your dealer or the manufacturer, and we coordinate with them when network changes affect their gear. That keeps a problem on an office PC from reaching the pivots.
We're a family farm. Is this more than we need?▼
Most of what helps a family farm is simple: separate logins with MFA, a password manager, a callback rule for payment changes, an up-to-date office computer with backups and a backup internet connection. That covers most of the ways farms lose money or records. We scale the work to your operation, and you get a phone number to call when something breaks, instead of waiting for a family member to have time to figure it out.

What does Farms IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
