IT for hydrogen producers proving every kilogram and guarding every vendor link

Hydrogen Producers IT Services

A hydrogen producer has to prove things other plants never had to: where every megawatt-hour came from, what the emissions intensity of each batch was, and that the electrolyzer or reformer ran inside its safety envelope, so lost or altered data can cost tax credits and offtake trust.

At a glance

Electrolyzer and compressor OEMs want cloud links into your equipment, offtakers want production and purity data, and process safety rules require documents that must always be available.

We run the business IT for green and blue hydrogen developers and operators, protect the records behind your claims and secure the boundary to plant controls with your OT team. We support producers in Texas and nationwide.

IT that keeps every MWh traceable, OEM links fenced, offtakers informed.

Emissions and power records you can defend, vendor cloud links on your terms, and safety documents that are there when the plant needs them.

Power in, molecules out

Why a hydrogen plant's records are the product

Hydrogen is a young industry with old hazards and new paperwork. A plant may combine electrolyzers or reformers, compression and storage, a power contract and attribute certificates, plus a few large offtakers watching every delivery. Much of the value depends on data that proves how the hydrogen was made. That makes the business IT and the vendor links around the plant worth defending.

01 · The pressure

Production, power and proof all have to agree

On a normal day, operations watches stack performance and purity, the commercial team schedules deliveries by pipeline, tube trailer or to an adjacent customer, and someone reconciles power use against contracts and energy attribute certificates. Engineers export historian data to tune efficiency. Environmental staff keep process safety and emissions records current. If those records are lost, altered or locked by ransomware, the plant may keep running while the claims, credits and contracts that pay for it fall into doubt.

  • Power use reconciled against attribute certificates
  • Purity and delivery data shared with offtakers
  • Process safety records kept current and available

02 · How it breaks

OEM clouds, startup shortcuts and wide-open data

Electrolyzer and compressor vendors often ship equipment with their own cellular modems or cloud connectors for remote monitoring and warranty support, installed during commissioning and rarely reviewed again. Startup teams share engineering accounts to hit milestones. Emissions calculations live in spreadsheets on personal drives. Partners and lenders get folder links that never expire. Attackers looking for a foothold find a vendor portal with a reused password or a phished project manager mailbox, then work toward the plant boundary.

  • Vendor modems added during commissioning
  • Emissions math living in personal spreadsheets
  • Partner folder links that never expire

03 · What we change

Owned vendor access and records with an audit trail

With your controls engineers, we inventory every OEM connection and route them through one path you control, with MFA, approvals and logging; changes inside the electrolyzer, reformer or safety systems stay with the OEM and OT team. Historian data reaches the business side through a DMZ. We move emissions, power and certificate records into managed storage with version history and restricted editing, protect process safety documents with offline copies, and replace open links with expiring, logged data rooms.

  • One controlled path for every OEM connection
  • Versioned emissions and certificate records
  • Offline copies of process safety documents

04 · The after

Claims you can defend in any review

When a tax advisor, verifier or offtaker asks how a production period's numbers were built, you can show the source data, who changed it and when. OEMs still support their equipment, but every session is visible to your team. Process safety documents stay reachable even if the main network has a bad day. Lenders and partners see a project that treats its data and its plant boundary seriously, which helps when the next phase needs financing.

  • Change history behind every emissions figure
  • OEM sessions visible to your own team
  • A data story that supports the next financing

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

OEM Remote Access Consolidation

Electrolyzer, compressor and analyzer vendors each want a way in. We work with your OT team to find every modem and cloud connector, then route vendor support through one access path you own, with MFA, approval before each session and recordings. The vendor keeps doing warranty work; you decide when and how.

Emissions and Credit Record Integrity

If you claim clean hydrogen credits, the calculations and source data behind them need to hold up. We store power, production and certificate records in managed systems with version history, limited edit rights and protected backups. Your tax and emissions advisors decide what to calculate and claim; we make sure the evidence stays intact.

IT/OT Boundary for Electrolysis and Reforming

We help your controls engineers design the separation between business systems and plant controls: a DMZ for historian replication, firewall rules limited to documented flows and monitoring at the seam. We don't change PLCs, DCS logic or safety instrumented systems; that work stays with the OT team and OEMs.

Process Safety Document Availability

Hydrogen in quantity brings process safety and risk management obligations, along with documents operators need on demand. We protect those files with controlled access and immutable backups, and keep a current offline copy in the control room so a network outage never leaves operators without procedures or P&IDs.

Offtaker and Partner Data Sharing

Industrial customers, pipeline partners, investors and lenders all need different slices of your data. We set up role-based portals or data rooms with expiring access, logs of who viewed what and controlled downloads, so commercial and technical information leaves only the way you intend, and access ends when a deal or study does.

Project-Phase IT That Scales

Many producers start as a small development team and grow into an operating plant. We set up identity, devices and email security from the start, add contractor accounts with expiry during construction and commissioning, and expand monitoring and support as operations staff arrive, so you don't rebuild IT at every phase.

Defensible Production Claims

Version-controlled records make it easier to show verifiers, advisors and buyers how each period's numbers were calculated. That reduces the risk that a data gap or unexplained edit undermines credits or contract terms tied to emissions intensity.

Vendor Support Without Blind Spots

OEMs keep their remote monitoring and warranty access, but through a door you control. Your team sees every session, can approve or deny it and can review recordings if equipment behaves strangely afterward. No more unknown modems in a cabinet.

Safer Operations During IT Trouble

With a clear boundary and offline copies of safety documents, a phishing incident or server failure on the business side doesn't leave operators without procedures, and it doesn't automatically force the plant down as a precaution.

Better Footing With Lenders and Buyers

Project finance parties and offtakers increasingly ask about cyber risk. Documented controls, tested recovery and well-managed data rooms give your finance and commercial teams solid answers, which helps when you're raising capital or negotiating long-term supply agreements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our electrolyzer vendor needs remote access for warranty. Can we still allow it?▼
Yes, and you should, because the vendor's monitoring often helps keep stacks healthy. The question is how. Instead of a vendor-installed modem nobody watches, we route their access through a path you own: MFA, a request and approval before each session, connection only to the equipment they support and a recording of what happened. We set it up with your OT team and the vendor so warranty terms are respected and your plant stays in your control.
Can you help with 45V documentation?▼
We help with the IT side of it. Your tax advisors and emissions consultants decide how credits are calculated, which records are needed and what gets claimed. We make sure the underlying data, such as power meter exports, certificate retirements, production totals and calculation workbooks, is stored with version history, restricted editing and protected backups. That way, if a review comes years later, you can show the original evidence and who changed what.
Do process safety rules apply to hydrogen plants?▼
Hydrogen is a flammable gas, and facilities that keep enough of it on site can fall under OSHA's Process Safety Management standard and EPA's Risk Management Program. Whether and how they apply to your facility is a question for your process safety and environmental staff. On the IT side, we make sure the documents those programs require stay available, controlled and backed up, including offline copies operators can reach during a network outage.
Will you touch the electrolyzer controls or the DCS?▼
No. Electrolyzer controls, reformer DCS, compressor PLCs and safety instrumented systems belong to your controls engineers and the equipment manufacturers. We secure the business network, design the boundary with your OT team and manage the remote access path vendors use. Any change at the boundary is planned through your change management process. That split keeps accountability clear and avoids anyone working on systems outside their expertise. Your OT lead always has the final word on timing.
We're still pre-construction. What should we set up now?▼
Start with identity and data. Give every team member a named account with phishing-resistant MFA, move project files into managed storage with clean permissions and set up data rooms for partners and lenders rather than open links. Decide early how vendor remote access will work and write it into equipment specifications, so OEMs know the rules before they ship modems. Fixing those decisions after startup is much harder and more disruptive.
How is this different from IT for an LNG or refining company?▼
The plant boundary work is similar, but hydrogen producers carry a heavier data-proof burden. Value often depends on showing how hydrogen was made: power sources, attribute certificates and emissions intensity. Many projects are also newer, with smaller teams, more OEM cloud connections and investors watching closely. So we put extra weight on record integrity, vendor access and scaling IT from development to operations, alongside the usual boundary protections. The marine and cargo concerns that dominate LNG usually don't apply.
Do you provide Hydrogen Producers IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers hydrogen producers IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Hydrogen Producers IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
