IT for LNG developers and operators where cargoes, contracts and plants run on schedule

LNG Companies IT Services

An LNG business runs on commitments measured in cargoes: if the corporate network that schedules ships, manages offtake contracts and talks to the plant is compromised, loading windows slip, buyers get nervous and regulators want answers.

At a glance

Your operation spans liquefaction and terminal control systems run by your controls engineers, marine and port security obligations, trading and scheduling platforms, lender and partner reporting, and construction projects with large contractor workforces.

We run the enterprise IT side for LNG developers, terminal operators and marketing companies, and secure the boundary to operational technology alongside your OT team. We support LNG companies in Texas and nationwide.

IT that keeps cargoes on schedule, the plant fenced off, partners confident.

A hard line between business IT and plant controls, contractor access you can account for, and a cyber plan ready for the Coast Guard.

From feed gas to cargo

Where an LNG company's IT risk concentrates

LNG brings together a process plant, a marine terminal, an energy trading desk and, often, a multi-year construction project. Each one has its own systems, regulators and partners. Attackers look for the weakest link between them, which is usually on the business side, where email, contractors and remote access meet the paths into the plant.

01 · The pressure

Ships, buyers and lenders all run on your schedule

On a normal day, schedulers coordinate feed gas, production forecasts and vessel arrivals. Commercial teams manage offtake agreements and spot cargoes in trading systems. Marine and security staff handle facility access, TWIC credentials and port coordination. Engineers pull plant data from historians for performance reviews. Finance reports to lenders and equity partners. If the corporate network goes down or is compromised, scheduling stalls, contract communications stop, and the plant may need to isolate itself until the threat is understood.

  • Vessel scheduling tied to loading windows
  • Offtake and trading activity across time zones
  • Historian data flowing from plant to business

02 · How it breaks

Contractor access and the IT/OT seam

Construction and turnaround projects bring large contractor workforces, each needing accounts, laptops and remote access, which rarely get removed when the work ends. Historian and engineering connections punched through the firewall years ago become paths from business IT toward the control network. Vendor remote access tools sit on engineering workstations. Commercial staff are phished with fake cargo nominations or invoice changes. A ransomware infection on the business side can force a precautionary plant shutdown even if it never reaches the controls.

  • Contractor accounts left active after projects
  • Old firewall holes between business and plant
  • Fake cargo nominations and invoice changes

03 · What we change

A defined boundary and controlled access

We work with your controls engineers to map every connection between business IT and the plant, then rebuild the boundary with a DMZ, historian replication and a single monitored remote access path with MFA and session recording. Changes inside the control system stay with your OT team and OEMs. We set up contractor identity with sponsors and expiry dates, secure trading and scheduling systems, add impersonation filtering for commercial staff, and help write the cybersecurity sections your MTSA plan requires.

  • Historian data through a DMZ, not a direct link
  • One recorded, MFA-protected remote access path
  • Contractor accounts with sponsors and expiry dates

04 · The after

Business incidents stay on the business side

With a clear boundary, a phishing incident in finance stays a finance problem instead of a reason to shut down a liquefaction train. Contractors get access quickly and lose it on schedule. Your security officer can show the Coast Guard a cyber plan that matches what's really deployed. Lenders, partners and insurers see documented controls and tested recovery. Commercial teams keep cargoes moving because their systems are protected and recoverable.

  • Business-side incidents kept away from the plant
  • MTSA cyber documentation matching reality
  • Evidence ready for lenders and insurers

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

IT/OT Boundary Design With Your OT Team

We map every connection between your business network and plant control systems with your controls engineers, then rebuild the boundary: a DMZ for historian replication, firewall rules that allow only documented flows, and monitoring at the seam. We don't change anything inside the DCS or safety systems; that stays with your OT team and OEMs.

MTSA Cybersecurity Plan Support

MTSA-regulated facilities now have Coast Guard cybersecurity requirements alongside their facility security plans. We help your facility security officer and cybersecurity lead document the IT controls, account management, incident reporting paths and training those requirements call for, and keep the documentation consistent with what's actually deployed.

Contractor and EPC Workforce Access

Construction and turnaround projects can bring large numbers of contractors onto your systems. We set up contractor identities with named sponsors, scoped access, MFA and automatic expiry, provision and recover laptops, and give project leadership a live view of who has access and why. Badge and TWIC processes stay with your security team.

Secure Remote Access for Vendors and Engineers

OEMs, licensors and remote engineers need access to support the plant. We replace scattered remote tools with a single access path that requires MFA, uses approved jump hosts, records sessions and requires your OT team's approval before a session starts. You can replay any session if a question comes up later.

Commercial, Trading and Scheduling Systems

Offtake management, trading and vessel scheduling systems carry market-sensitive data. We secure their infrastructure and accounts with phishing-resistant MFA, restrict access by role, monitor for unusual activity and back them up so a business-side incident doesn't stop cargo planning or contract communications. Counterparty verification calls become routine.

Incident Response and Recovery Planning

We build incident response plans that spell out when the business side isolates from the plant, who decides, how the Coast Guard and other required parties get notified and how systems are restored. Then we run tabletop exercises with IT, OT, security and commercial teams together.

Why Choose LayerLogix?

Serving businesses throughout the Greater Houston area including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, Nationwide.

Fewer Precautionary Shutdowns

When the boundary between business IT and plant controls is clear and monitored, a business-side incident doesn't automatically force the plant to isolate or shut down. Operations can make decisions based on facts, and production keeps running while IT handles the problem.

Regulatory Documentation That Matches Reality

Coast Guard inspectors and other reviewers notice when plans don't match what's deployed. Keeping cyber documentation aligned with actual controls makes inspections smoother and reduces findings that demand corrective action. Your facility security officer spends less time reconciling paperwork with configurations before each inspection.

Contractors Managed at Project Scale

Sponsored identities and automatic expiry keep contractor access under control even when workforce numbers swing during construction or turnarounds. Contractors get productive quickly, and you can always say who has access and why. Demobilization no longer leaves stray accounts behind.

Confidence for Lenders and Partners

Project lenders, equity partners and offtakers increasingly ask about cyber risk. Documented boundary controls, access management and tested recovery give your finance and commercial teams credible answers during reporting and contract reviews. Those answers can come up in refinancing, too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work on our DCS, safety systems or other plant controls?▼
No. Control systems, safety instrumented systems and plant equipment belong to your controls engineers and the OEMs that support them. Our work is the business IT side and the boundary between the two: firewalls, DMZ design, historian replication, remote access paths, identity and monitoring at the seam. We design boundary changes together with your OT team and schedule them through your change management process. That division keeps responsibility clear and avoids anyone touching systems they aren't qualified to change.
What do the Coast Guard cybersecurity requirements mean for us?▼
Facilities regulated under the Maritime Transportation Security Act now have Coast Guard cybersecurity requirements, including plans, account security, training and incident reporting. How they apply to your facility, and on what timeline, is something your facility security officer and counsel should confirm. We help with the IT side: documenting controls, setting up account security and MFA, building incident reporting procedures, supporting training and keeping your plan consistent with what's actually deployed so inspections don't uncover gaps.
How do you handle contractor access during construction?▼
Every contractor gets a named identity with a sponsor on your side, access scoped to what their role needs, MFA and an expiry date tied to their contract. We provision laptops or approved virtual desktops and recover them at the end of the engagement. Project leadership gets a live view of who has access. When a contractor company finishes its scope, all of its accounts can be shut off at once. This keeps large and changing workforces from leaving behind accounts nobody remembers.
Our historian connects directly to the business network. Is that a problem?▼
It's one of the most common weak points. Direct connections from business IT into plant networks can give an attacker a path toward control systems. The usual fix is replicating historian data into a DMZ so business users read from a copy, never the source. We design that with your OT team and historian vendor, test it during approved windows, and confirm engineers still get the data they need. Then we monitor the boundary so new, undocumented connections get noticed.
Can you protect our trading and cargo scheduling systems?▼
Yes. We secure the infrastructure, accounts and network access for commercial systems, whether hosted or on-premises. That includes phishing-resistant MFA, role-based access, monitoring for unusual activity and backups that let you restore quickly. Commercial staff are frequent targets for fake cargo nominations, invoice changes and impersonated counterparties, so we add email filtering and help set verification procedures. Application configuration, like contract terms or scheduling rules, remains with your commercial team and the software vendor.
We're still developing our project. Is it too early for this?▼
Development is the easiest time to get it right. Pre-FID and construction phases involve lenders, partners, EPC contractors and licensors exchanging sensitive data, and early decisions about networks and remote access tend to stick for years. We can set up corporate IT, contractor identity and data rooms now, and work with your owner's engineers so the plant boundary design is considered before systems are installed. Retrofitting a boundary into a running plant is much harder than designing it in.
