IT for pits, quarries and plants where trucks can't wait on a ticket printer

Mining & Aggregates IT Services

In aggregates and mining, every load that leaves the gate needs a weight, a ticket and an invoice, and when the scale house computer or its connection to dispatch drops, trucks stack up on the haul road.

At a glance

Your sites are remote, dusty and often connected by a single radio or cellular link, while the money side lives in an ERP back at the office.

We support the scale house PCs and ticketing software, site networks and failover links, the office systems, email and backups that tie it together.

Plant controls, crushers and conveyors stay with your controls contractor and equipment dealers; we secure the network around them. We work with producers in Texas and nationwide.

IT that keeps trucks crossing, tickets printing, every pit connected.

Scale houses, remote site links and office systems for producers who measure the day in tons shipped.

Mining & aggregates

Every ton needs a ticket, and every ticket needs IT

A quarry or sand pit can have perfect equipment and still stop shipping when a scale house PC freezes or the site link drops. Here's what the day leans on, how things usually fail at remote sites, what we put in place and how it feels once the network stops being the bottleneck.

01 · The pressure

The scale house sets the pace

Trucks start lining up before sunrise. The scale operator weighs each one, the ticketing software prints the ticket and pushes the transaction to the office for billing, and dispatch watches what's shipped against open orders. Meanwhile someone is filing blast records and safety paperwork, and the plant manager is checking production reports. If the scale house loses its connection or its PC, loads go out on handwritten tickets that have to be re-keyed later, and billing errors follow.

  • Scale ticketing tied to billing and dispatch
  • Remote sites on one radio or cell link
  • Production, blast and safety records

02 · How it breaks

One link, one login, one PC

Remote sites fail in predictable ways. The single cellular modem dies in the heat. The scale house PC runs an old Windows build that nobody dares update, with a shared login taped to the monitor. A haul-truck telematics portal still uses the password from the dealer's setup visit. Accounts payable gets an email from a fuel supplier asking to update bank details. Plant control panels sit on the same flat network as the office Wi-Fi the contractors use.

  • Single-path site links with no failover
  • Shared logins on scale house PCs
  • Fake vendor bank change requests

03 · What we change

Redundant links and locked-down scales

We add a second path at each site, usually cellular on a different carrier or fixed wireless, with a managed firewall that fails over on its own. Scale house PCs get individual logins, application control and planned patching with your ticketing vendor's blessing, plus a local store-and-forward check so tickets queue when the link drops. Office email gets MFA and payment-change verification steps. Plant control networks are separated from office and guest traffic, with changes inside controls left to your contractor.

  • Dual-carrier failover at each site
  • Hardened scale PCs with named logins
  • Segmented plant and guest networks

04 · The after

Trucks move, invoices match

Once that's in place, a dropped carrier means a failover alert, not a line of trucks. Tickets reach billing the same day, so invoices match what customers picked up. The office can answer an insurer's questions about MFA, backups and remote access with documentation rather than hope. And when the quarry superintendent calls about a scale PC, there's a help desk that already knows the site, the ticketing software and who to call at the vendor.

  • Link failures become alerts, not delays
  • Same-day ticket to invoice flow
  • Insurance answers backed by records

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

Scale House & Ticketing Support

We keep the PCs, printers, displays and network behind your scale ticketing software running. Updates are coordinated with the software vendor, each operator gets their own login, and we confirm tickets sync back to the office. If a scale PC fails, a prepared replacement and documented setup get the lane weighing again quickly.

Remote Site Connectivity & Failover

Pits and quarries rarely sit near fiber. We design site links using cellular, fixed wireless or satellite, add a second carrier for failover, and manage the firewall that switches between them. Link health is watched by 24/7 automated monitoring, so we often know a site is degraded before the scale operator does.

Plant Network Segmentation

Crusher, wash plant and conveyor control panels shouldn't share a network with contractor laptops or office Wi-Fi. We separate plant control traffic from business and guest networks at the firewall and document what crosses. Changes to PLCs or plant HMIs stay with your controls contractor or equipment dealer.

Fleet & Telematics Account Security

Haul trucks, loaders and service vehicles report into dealer and telematics portals that often still use setup passwords. We inventory those accounts, move them to named users with MFA where the platform supports it, and make sure departing employees and dealers lose access when they should.

Office, ERP & Email Support

Billing, payroll and accounting run on your ERP and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. We support users, protect logins with MFA, add verification steps for vendor payment changes and keep a help desk that knows the difference between a scale problem and an ERP problem.

Backups for Tickets, Records & Files

Ticket databases, blast logs, environmental and safety records and engineering files all get backed up to immutable, offsite storage. We restore-test them on a schedule, so a failed server or ransomware event at the office doesn't erase years of production history. Each quarter you get a short report listing what was backed up and what was restored.

Fewer Handwritten Tickets

Redundant links and prepared spare scale PCs mean fewer days when loads leave on paper. That cuts the re-keying, the billing disputes and the end-of-month reconciliation headaches that follow an outage at the gate. Customers get accurate tickets too.

Every Site Visible From the Office

You'll see which sites are online, which are on backup links and which devices need attention. That turns a phone call from the superintendent into a quick check instead of a guessing game. Trends in link quality also show which sites need a better antenna.

Payment Fraud Gets Harder

Fake fuel or parts vendor emails asking for new bank details are a common way producers lose money. MFA on mailboxes and a call-back rule for payment changes make that trick much harder to pull off.

Hands On Site When It Matters

Most fixes happen remotely. When a site needs hands on a modem or switch, we go ourselves near our offices or direct a vetted local technician, with our engineer guiding the work so it's done right the first time.

Our Process

1
Visit or video-walk each site to map scale lanes, plant panels, links, Wi-Fi and every device that connects back to the office.
2
Review your ticketing, ERP and telematics accounts to find shared logins, stale users and vendor access that never got removed.
3
Install managed firewalls with dual-carrier failover at each site and separate plant control, office and guest traffic.
4
Harden scale house PCs with named logins and application control, and stage a ready spare for each critical lane.
5
Turn on MFA, payment-change verification and immutable backups for ERP, email, tickets and production records.
6
Hand over site diagrams and an outage runbook, then review links, accounts and restore tests with you every quarter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you support our scale ticketing software?▼
We support everything around it: the PCs, printers, remote displays, network and the sync back to your office or ERP. For problems inside the application itself, such as a pricing table or a report, the software vendor stays the expert, and we open and manage that ticket for you so your scale operator isn't stuck on hold. We also coordinate updates with the vendor so a Windows patch doesn't break the scale interface. Before we change anything on a scale PC, we document the setup, which is what lets us rebuild a failed one quickly.
Our quarry only has cellular service. Can you make it reliable?▼
Usually much more reliable than it is today. Many sites run on one carrier and one modem, so when either has a bad day, the scale house goes offline. We add a second carrier or fixed wireless link, choose antennas suited to the site, and use a firewall that fails over automatically. We'll also check whether your ticketing software can queue transactions locally so tickets still print while the link is down. No remote link is perfect, but redundancy turns most outages into an alert we handle rather than a line of trucks.
Do you work on crushers, conveyors or plant PLCs?▼
No. Plant controls belong with your controls contractor, the equipment manufacturer or your dealer, who know the machines and the safety implications of changing them. Our work stops at the network boundary. We separate plant control networks from office and guest traffic, control who can reach those panels remotely and keep logs of that access. When a contractor needs to update a plant HMI or PLC program, we'll make sure they can connect securely for that window, then close it again afterward. That way nobody's guessing who changed what on a production system.
Which records should we be most careful about backing up?▼
Start with anything you'd struggle to recreate: scale ticket history, customer pricing and order data, blast records, environmental monitoring logs, safety training files and engineering or survey drawings. Many producers also keep permit documents only on one shared drive. We back these up to immutable, offsite storage, which means ransomware can't encrypt or delete the copies, and we test restores on a schedule. You'll get a short list showing what's protected, how often it's copied and how long a restore took, which is also useful when an insurer asks.
How do fake vendor emails hurt aggregates companies?▼
Producers pay a steady stream of fuel, parts, trucking and equipment rental invoices, which makes them a good target for business email compromise. An attacker gets into a vendor's or your own mailbox, watches the invoice threads, then sends a believable request to change the bank account for the next payment. We reduce that risk with MFA on every mailbox, alerts for suspicious forwarding rules and sign-ins, email filtering tuned for lookalike domains, and a simple written rule: any bank change gets verified by phone using a number already on file, never one from the email.
Do you only support producers near your offices?▼
No. Most of our work is remote by U.S.-based engineers, which fits operations spread across multiple pits and plants. For on-site needs like replacing a firewall at a remote quarry or running cable to a new scale house, we handle it ourselves near our offices or direct a vetted local technician while our engineer stays involved. That combination lets us support aggregate and mining operations across the country without asking you to change how your sites are laid out.
Do you provide Mining & Aggregates IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers mining & aggregates IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. For most Houston-area clients we can be on-site the same day when something needs hands-on attention, and our help desk is available during business hours, with after-hours emergency support. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Mining & Aggregates IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
