What happens to the gate if the facility's internet goes down?▼
It depends on your gate system, but in many setups the gate controller keeps working with its last synced codes while new rentals, payments and delinquency changes stop syncing. That means new tenants may not get in and delinquent tenants may not get locked out. A cellular failover line keeps sync running when the primary line drops. We install and monitor it, so a cut cable becomes an alert to us rather than a weekend of tenant complaints.
Do you program gate systems or smart locks?▼
No. Gate controllers, keypads, smart lock hubs and cameras are configured and supported by their vendors and installers. We handle the network and accounts around them: putting those devices on their own segments, restricting how vendors connect remotely, protecting admin portals with MFA and named logins, and monitoring connectivity. We coordinate with PTI, OpenTech, Noke or your camera installer when a change touches their equipment, so responsibilities stay clear for everyone involved.
How do we stop callers from talking their way into a unit?▼
Give your call center and managers a consistent verification script and make the facility software support it. Before changing a gate code, phone number, email or authorized user, staff confirm details that a stranger wouldn't have and send confirmation to the contact information already on file. We protect call center accounts with MFA and named logins, so you can see who made each change. Social engineering works when every agent improvises; a script takes that away.
Are rental kiosks a PCI risk?▼
They can be if they share a network with guest Wi-Fi, cameras or the office PC. Kiosks and counter terminals should sit on an isolated segment that can only reach the payment processor and the services they need. Card data should stay with the processor and never be written into notes or spreadsheets. We set up that isolation, keep the kiosk's operating system and software current with the vendor and help you answer your processor's PCI DSS questionnaire accurately.
Can you support a portfolio of facilities in different markets?▼
Yes. Most of the work is remote: monitoring, account management, network configuration and help desk support for managers and the call center. We set a standard site kit so every facility looks the same from a support point of view. Hands-on work, such as installing equipment, is done locally near our offices or by a vetted local technician directed by our engineer. That makes it practical to support facilities spread across several states.
What should we check when we acquire a facility?▼
Who has access to what. Previous owners, managers and vendors often keep logins to the facility software, gate system, cameras and internet account. We inventory equipment and services, move staff onto your accounts, remove prior access, change admin passwords on every device and bring the site onto your standard firewall and segmentation. We also confirm the gate and payment integrations are working with your facility software before the first rental under your name.
Do you provide Self in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers self to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. For most Houston-area clients we can be on-site the same day when something needs hands-on attention, and our help desk is available during business hours, with after-hours emergency support. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Self cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
