How do vacation rental host accounts get hijacked?▼
Usually through phishing that imitates the OTA. Someone on your team gets an urgent-looking message about a reservation problem or a security alert, clicks through and enters credentials on a fake login page. If MFA isn't on, the attacker logs in, changes the payout method, adds their own user or messages guests with off-platform payment requests. MFA on every account, named users instead of a shared host login, alerts on payout changes and staff training close most of that risk.
Should guests and smart locks share the home's Wi-Fi?▼
No. Smart locks, thermostats, cameras where permitted and noise monitors should sit on their own network, separate from guest devices. Otherwise a guest's infected laptop, or a curious guest, can reach those devices. We set up each home with a managed router that runs separate guest and device networks, lets you rotate the guest password between stays and reports to our monitoring. Owners' personal devices, if any stay in the home, get their own network too.
How do we protect owner payouts from fraud?▼
Treat any change to an owner's banking details as suspicious until verified. A common scheme is an email, often from a compromised or lookalike owner account, asking to update bank details just before statements go out. We protect your accounting mailboxes, publish DMARC so your domain can't be spoofed to owners, and help you set a rule that changes are confirmed by phone with a number already on file. Owners appreciate the extra step once they understand why.
Do you manage the smart locks themselves?▼
We manage the accounts and network around them, not the lock hardware. That means registering admin accounts, enforcing MFA and named logins, removing former staff and contractors, putting locks on the device network in each home and making sure codes flow from your PMS integration. Battery replacement, hardware failures and firmware go through your maintenance team and the manufacturer. If an integration between the PMS and the lock platform breaks, we help diagnose which side has the problem.
What guest data do we need to protect?▼
Guest names, contact details, ID images if you collect them, payment information and stay history. Card data should stay with your PMS's payment processor, which narrows your PCI DSS scope. IDs and personal details should live inside the PMS rather than in email or shared drives, with access limited to staff who need them. State privacy and breach laws vary, so your attorney decides retention and notification policy; we make your systems follow it.
Can you support homes in several markets?▼
Yes. Network monitoring, account management and help desk work are remote. For hands-on work at a home, like replacing a router, your maintenance team can handle it with our step-by-step guidance, or we coordinate a vetted local technician directed by our engineer. We keep a standard equipment list and configuration so any home can be set up the same way, which keeps support predictable whether you manage a beach town, a mountain market or both.
Do you provide Vacation Rental Managers IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼

What does Vacation Rental Managers IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
