IT for storage developers, from queue position to market dispatch

Battery Storage Developers IT Services

A battery storage company's value sits in a handful of things you can't replace quickly: queue positions, interconnection study results, offtake and tolling agreements, and the dispatch strategy that decides when every megawatt-hour gets sold.

At a glance

All of it lives in email, SharePoint and a few cloud platforms that an attacker only needs one password to reach.

We run IT for storage developers and owner-operators, protecting development files, securing logins to bidding and optimization platforms, and putting real control over the integrator, EMS and BMS vendors who connect to your sites remotely.

We secure the IT side and the boundary into the plant and coordinate with your integrator and controls engineers for anything inside the energy management or battery management systems. Support covers projects across the country.

IT that keeps queue files safe, bids going out, integrators in check.

Development files, bidding platform access and vendor remote sessions secured for storage projects from early queue through operations.

Grid-scale battery storage

Small teams, big assets, many vendors

Storage developers tend to run lean: a few developers, engineers, analysts and asset managers carrying a pipeline worth far more than the office suggests. Once projects energize, a cell supplier, integrator, EMS provider and market optimizer all want a connection. Here's what that does to your IT risk, and how we keep it in hand.

01 · The pressure

Deadlines on the queue, decisions in the market

In development, missing an interconnection deposit or study response can cost you a queue position you spent years earning. Your team trades load-flow results, site layouts and draft tolling agreements with utilities, consultants and investors daily. Once a project is operating, dispatch decisions happen in a bidding or optimization platform, often around the clock. If an analyst's account is compromised, an attacker can read your pricing strategy. If the vendor link to site goes dark, availability and revenue both suffer.

  • Interconnection studies and queue deadlines
  • Tolling and offtake agreements under negotiation
  • Dispatch decisions in bidding platforms

02 · How it breaks

Too many vendors, too few doors closed

Storage projects collect remote access fast. The integrator sets up a VPN during commissioning, the EMS provider installs its own cellular modem for monitoring, and the cell supplier wants warranty data pulled from the battery management system. Nobody keeps a single list. Meanwhile analysts share one login to the optimization dashboard, a fake utility email asks for an updated security deposit wire, and a consultant's compromised mailbox sends a poisoned link to your load-flow study folder.

  • Untracked vendor modems and VPNs at site
  • Shared logins to optimization dashboards
  • Fake deposit requests posing as utilities

03 · What we change

A single register and gateway for site access

We build a register of every remote connection into each project, then work with your integrator and EMS provider to route it through a managed gateway with named accounts, MFA and logging. Undocumented modems get removed or brought under control with the vendor's agreement. Bidding and optimization platforms move to individual logins with MFA. Development files get permissioned SharePoint libraries, versioning and immutable backups, and your finance team adds a phone verification step for every deposit or wire request.

  • Register of every vendor connection by site
  • Individual MFA logins on bidding platforms
  • Phone-verified interconnection deposits

04 · The after

A pipeline you can defend and sell

When an investor runs diligence, you can show who accesses each operating project and how. Your analysts' accounts are protected, so pricing strategy stays internal. Queue documents restore from clean backups if something goes wrong the week a response is due. Vendor sessions have names and timestamps. And when the integrator's contract ends, cutting off their access is a single change rather than a hunt for a modem bolted inside a container.

  • Diligence-ready access documentation
  • Pricing strategy kept inside your team
  • One-step vendor offboarding at contract end

What We Offer

Comprehensive solutions tailored for Houston-area businesses

Development File and Queue Document Protection

Interconnection applications, system impact studies, site control agreements and permitting files take years to assemble. We organize them in permissioned SharePoint libraries per project, keep version history so a bad overwrite isn't a disaster, and back everything up to immutable storage. When a deadline approaches, your team works from files they can trust are current and intact.

Integrator and EMS Vendor Access Control

System integrators, EMS providers, BMS vendors and cell suppliers each want their own path into an operating site. We inventory those paths, consolidate them behind a managed gateway where the vendors agree, and enforce named accounts, MFA and session logs. Changes inside the EMS, BMS or plant controller remain the job of the integrator and your controls engineers.

Bidding and Optimization Platform Security

Market optimization software and trading dashboards hold your bid strategy and revenue data. We tie those logins to individual people with MFA wherever the platform allows, remove access promptly when analysts or contractors leave, and monitor sign-ins for unusual locations, so nobody outside your team can see or change how your batteries are dispatched.

Investor and Lender Data Rooms

Raising capital, selling a project or closing construction debt means sharing models, contracts and studies with outside parties. We set up project data rooms with per-person permissions, expiring external links and access auditing, then close them out cleanly when the transaction is done so nothing stays exposed after closing.

Identity and Email Protection

Most storage companies run on Microsoft 365, and most attacks start there. We enforce MFA and conditional access, block legacy sign-in methods, add impersonation and lookalike-domain detection, and alert on suspicious inbox rules. On top of that, our managed detection and response service adds 24/7 SOC monitoring that spots a hijacked account and locks it down automatically.

Site Network Boundary Support

At each operating project, we document where the corporate network meets the plant network, manage the IT-side firewall and remote access gateway, and keep diagrams current as augmentation phases add containers and vendors. Where your assets are NERC-registered, that documentation supports your compliance team's electronic access records.

Why Choose LayerLogix?

Serving businesses throughout the Greater Houston area including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Atlanta, Nationwide.

Queue Positions Protected

Versioned, backed-up development files and verified deposit payments mean a ransomware event or wire fraud attempt doesn't jeopardize a queue position. Your team meets study deadlines with intact documents and confidence that the money went where it was supposed to.

Vendor Access Under Your Control

You'll know every company that can reach each site, how they connect and when they did. Ending a vendor's access becomes a deliberate, documented change instead of a guess about which modem belongs to whom.

Dispatch Strategy Kept Confidential

Individual, MFA-protected access to optimization and bidding platforms keeps your pricing logic and revenue data inside your team. Sign-in monitoring flags anything unusual before a compromised account can be used to read or change your strategy.

Smoother Financing and Sales

Investors, lenders and buyers ask how you secure operating assets and handle sensitive project data. Clean data rooms, access registers and boundary diagrams shorten that conversation and remove a common source of last-minute diligence questions.

Our Process

1
Meet with development, engineering, asset management and finance to map where project files, platform logins and vendor relationships sit.
2
Build a remote access register for every operating or commissioning site, listing each vendor connection, owner and method.
3
Lock down Microsoft 365 identity, email protection and endpoints, and move bidding and optimization platforms to individual MFA logins.
4
Restructure development files into permissioned project libraries with versioning, immutable backups and controlled external sharing.
5
Work with integrators and EMS providers to bring site access behind a managed gateway with named accounts and session logging.
6
Review access registers, data rooms and boundary diagrams quarterly and at each augmentation, commissioning or vendor change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you manage the EMS or battery management system?▼
No. The energy management system, battery management system, thermal controls and plant controller belong to your integrator, OEMs and controls engineers, and changes there affect safety, warranties and performance guarantees. Our role is the IT layer: the corporate network, the identities and laptops your staff use, the remote access gateway, the firewall on the IT side of the boundary, and the documentation that shows how it all fits. When work inside the plant network is needed, we coordinate with the system owner and keep a record of what changed.
Our integrator installed its own cellular modem at the site. Is that a problem?▼
It can be, mainly because it often sits outside anyone's inventory. A vendor modem may have a default password, no logging and a direct path into plant equipment. We don't rip it out unilaterally, since it may be part of a service agreement. Instead we document it, talk with the integrator about how it's secured, and where possible move that access behind your managed gateway with named accounts and logs. If it has to stay, we push for strong credentials, restricted reach and a record of every session.
How do you protect interconnection and queue documents?▼
We start by getting them out of personal OneDrive folders and email attachments into a permissioned library for each project. Version history means an accidental overwrite or a corrupted file can be rolled back in minutes. Backups go to immutable storage that ransomware can't encrypt or delete. We also limit who can share files outside the company and turn on access auditing, so you know which consultants and partners have seen a study. Finance gets a verification step for any deposit or security payment request.
Can you secure our access to bidding and optimization platforms?▼
Yes, from the identity side. Many optimization and trading platforms support single sign-on or individual accounts with MFA, and we set those up so each analyst, asset manager or contractor has their own login. For platforms that only offer a shared account, we store the credential in a password vault that logs who used it and rotate it when people leave. We also watch sign-ins for unusual locations or times. The platform provider still controls its application; we control who in your company can get in.
Does NERC CIP apply to our battery projects?▼
That's a determination for your compliance team or counsel, based on your registrations and how your facilities connect to the bulk electric system. Where your assets are NERC-registered, CIP requirements around electronic access, logging and change management apply, and we support the IT portion: access records, gateway logs, patch documentation and boundary diagrams. Projects outside that scope still benefit from the same discipline, since investors, insurers and utility counterparties increasingly ask for it during diligence and contract negotiations.
We're a small team. Is managed IT overkill?▼
A small team with large assets is exactly where managed IT pays off. You probably don't have a full-time IT person, yet you're holding queue positions, contracts and operating sites that attackers find attractive. We handle help desk support, device management, Microsoft 365, backups and security monitoring so your developers and analysts can stay focused on projects. Most work is done remotely by U.S.-based engineers during business hours, with after-hours emergency response for active incidents, and we scale up as your portfolio grows.
Do you provide Battery Storage Developers IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers battery storage developers IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. For most Houston-area clients we can be on-site the same day when something needs hands-on attention, and our help desk is available during business hours, with after-hours emergency support. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Battery Storage Developers IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
