Do you work on inverters, SCADA or plant controllers?▼
No, and we're upfront about that. Inverters, power plant controllers, meteorological stations and SCADA systems belong to your OEMs, SCADA integrator and EPC, who understand the equipment and its warranties. What we do is secure the IT around it: the corporate network, the people and laptops that connect remotely, the firewall rules and remote access paths at the boundary, and the accounts used to log into monitoring platforms. When a change is needed inside the control network, we coordinate with whoever owns that system so nothing affects production or voids a warranty.
Our O&M team shares one login to the monitoring portal. Is that a real problem?▼
It's one of the most common risks we see in solar. A shared login means you can't tell who made a change, you can't cut off one person without disrupting everyone, and former employees often still know the password. Some portals allow remote commands, not just viewing, which raises the stakes. Our first step is moving each person to a named account with MFA wherever the platform supports it. For systems that only allow a shared credential, we put it in a password vault that logs every use and rotate it whenever someone leaves.
How do you protect financing and tax equity data rooms?▼
We build a dedicated space for each project or transaction in SharePoint or Teams, with permissions granted per person rather than through open links. External sharing is set to expire, downloads can be blocked for the most sensitive files, and access auditing records who opened what. When the deal closes, we archive the room and remove outside access in one step. If you already use a third-party virtual data room, we focus on the internal side: making sure the documents feeding it come from controlled locations and that staff access is tied to MFA.
Our crews are on remote sites with weak cell coverage. Can you help?▼
Yes. Connectivity on a greenfield site is usually a mix of cellular hotspots with external antennas, a temporary connection to the construction trailer, and sometimes satellite service. We help pick and set up the right option for each site, then configure devices to sync Procore, drawings and photos automatically once they reconnect. Device management keeps every tablet and laptop encrypted, updated and wipeable. When a phone dies or goes missing mid-shift, we can get a replacement configured with the same apps and access quickly.
Does NERC CIP apply to our solar projects?▼
It depends on your projects and registrations, which is a question for your compliance advisor or counsel. NERC CIP applies to entities registered with NERC, such as generator owners and operators whose facilities meet the bulk electric system criteria. Many smaller distributed projects fall outside that scope. Where your assets are NERC-registered, we support the IT side of the work: access management, logging, patching records and electronic access controls at the boundary. Where they aren't, we still apply similar practices, because offtakers and insurers often expect them anyway.
Can you support both our office staff and our O&M technicians?▼
That's the normal arrangement. Office staff in development, finance and engineering get help desk support, Microsoft 365 management and workstation care. O&M technicians get managed rugged devices, mobile access to monitoring and work order tools, and quick account help when a login fails on site. Support runs during business hours, with after-hours emergency response for active security incidents. Most work happens remotely by U.S.-based engineers, and hands-on tasks near our offices are handled locally or by a vetted local technician our engineer directs.
Do you provide Solar Energy Companies IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers solar energy companies IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. For most Houston-area clients we can be on-site the same day when something needs hands-on attention, and our help desk is available during business hours, with after-hours emergency support. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Solar Energy Companies IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
