Do medical couriers really have HIPAA obligations?▼
Often, yes. If you transport specimens, prescriptions or records and handle information that identifies patients on manifests, labels or in your dispatch system, your healthcare customers will usually treat you as a business associate and ask you to sign an agreement. That brings HIPAA Security Rule expectations for access controls, encryption, audit logs and a risk analysis. We handle the technical safeguards and documentation. Whether a specific contract makes you a business associate is a question for your attorney.
Our drivers are contractors using their own phones. Can you still manage them?▼
Yes. For personally owned phones we use a work profile, which separates the company apps and data from everything else on the device. We can update, lock or wipe the work side only, and we can’t see personal photos, texts or browsing. Contractors usually accept this once it’s explained plainly and they see what we can and can’t touch. If someone refuses, the fallback is a low-cost company handset that stays with the route rather than the person.
Can you support our dispatch software if it’s hosted by the vendor?▼
We can. Hosted platforms still need someone managing user accounts, MFA, browser and workstation setup, printer and label integrations, and the customer API credentials that feed orders in. We act as your technical contact with the vendor, open tickets on your behalf, and keep a dated record of configuration changes. If the platform runs on your own server instead, we also handle patching, backups and remote access to that machine.
What happens if our office internet goes down during the morning rush?▼
With a failover link in place, the firewall shifts traffic to the backup connection, usually cellular, and dispatch keeps working. Drivers on cellular data are unaffected either way, since their phones talk to the hosted platform directly. Our monitoring flags the primary outage so we can chase the carrier while you keep running. Without failover, a dispatcher working from a phone hotspot is the usual emergency plan, and we’ll set that up too.
How do you protect us from payment fraud aimed at billing?▼
Courier offices get impersonation emails pretending to be customers changing remittance details or contractors updating payout accounts. We filter for lookalike domains and spoofed senders, add external-sender warnings, and put MFA on the mailboxes that handle money. The most effective control is procedural: any request to change bank information gets verified by calling a number already on file. We write that rule down with you and train billing staff on it.
Do you only work with courier companies in one city?▼
No. Most of our work is remote, so we support courier companies across the country, from single-depot operators to regional networks. Driver devices, hosted dispatch platforms, email and portals are all managed over the internet. When a depot needs physical work, like a new switch, a failed label printer or a wiring problem, our engineers handle it locally near our offices or direct a vetted local technician on site while we stay on the call.
Do you provide Courier Services IT Services in Houston and nearby areas?▼
Yes. LayerLogix is based in the Greater Houston area and delivers courier services IT services to businesses across Houston and the surrounding communities, including The Woodlands, Spring, Katy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Cypress, and Pearland. For most Houston-area clients we can be on-site the same day when something needs hands-on attention, and our help desk is available during business hours, with after-hours emergency support. Call 713-571-2390 to check coverage for your specific address.
What does Courier Services IT Services cost for a Houston business?▼
Pricing depends on your size and what you need, so we do not publish a one-size-fits-all number — but Houston businesses generally pay a flat, predictable monthly fee rather than surprise hourly bills. We start with a free, no-obligation assessment of your current setup, then give you a clear quote in plain English with no hidden costs. That way you know exactly what you are getting and what it costs before you commit.
